Hey guys. It's been a rollercoaster ride the last couple of days. I got a call from Mom Tuesday evening, saying that Dad had signed himself out of the hospital AMA (against medical advice). We went up there, a two hour drive for me, to see what was going on. I called first, but he refused to speak to me, which told me that he wasn't thinking rationally. When we arrived, he was completely delirious--he thought I was coming to get him in my train but got stuck in the snow on top of the mountains--, had a fever over 102, was deathly ill, and was receiving absolutely no treatment since he'd signed himself out. They had removed his IV and even his hospital gown, and refused to so much as give him a tylenol or cup of water. They weren't even going to let me use a wheelchair to take him out of there. Around 3 am, after arguing with a scared, delirious, very sick man, we got him to agree to be readmitted. They got him back on meds, got his blood pressure up out of the 70/40 range, and he regained lucidity around 8 am Wednesday morning. Come to find out, they had given some wicked surgical prep that dehydrated him so fast his blood pressure and blood sugar dropped as a result, making him delirious and scared. I don't know why they let him sign out, when he was so clearly out of his head, but after the surgery is over and things have settled down, they'll be dealing with the fallout from their actions. I can't recall being treated worse than I was during this ordeal.

Anyway, Dad's feeling much better and looking pretty good today. Surgery has been rescheduled to tomorrow at 2.

I truly appreciate all of your responses and support. I can handle a lot of things, but staying up for over 24 hours, fighting with those people, and seeing my dad at death's door took me to my threshhold. With God's grace and a good night's sleep at the hotel last night, I'm feeling much better today. I'm home now and will stay here for the night before returning to the hospital tomorrow morning.

Keep the prayers going. I'll be in touch soon.
