Big problem with counterfeiting another brand.You probably won't get into trouble for buying a counterfeit, but you do run the risk of having it seized when it enters the country. And if you don't like the guitar, you're stuck: selling a counterfeit guitar is a whole different story.Me? I'd steer clear of the whole thing.

That means I have no problem with clones, even from the so-called "lawsuit era" -which affected Japanese brands whose models were basically Gibson copies (Greco, Tokai, Orville and such).But counterfait, well... that's another story. It's true I'd have a big trouble with that.

In any case, is a beautiful guitar, and i hope is as good as it looks I know most people are not very fond of imports such as Korean Calis, i still have one, with boomers, and that's still one of my fave guitars So imports is general, because they have a huge competition, are sometimes of better quality than the originals. Just check the Gibson logo thing, just in case you could have custom problems. And tell us about the sound!!!

I know that Customs seizes counterfeit items and trademark violations. I saw in one of your posts that you used paypal. I wonder if you would get a refund in case of a seizure?I hope you receive it without incident, and it turns out to be an awesome player. The actual pictures looked great.I would agree with the comment on reselling a counterfeit item. That's really the only liability I can see on your part, but if it turns out well, it should be a keeper.Enjoy, and please post a final report!

If the tracking shows it never arrived, I will get back my measly $280. And then, I also have the Paypal as a backup to that. It's on its way.I'm not worried about selling it. It's only $280. That's more than most of my stomp-boxes.

I need a double F-hole guitar, seeing as I'm now in Nashville and all I have are 80s shredders. I'd like to place a custom order for a Newport, but that'll take time, I'm not earning anything now and living off savings, and I still have my car-bug and a new car to customize...so when I came across a mahogany-look Epiphone (actually all-maple construction), no binding, for like $270, I'm thinking, that's chump change and I think I can set it up to be a good player...?

santellavision Posted September 13, 2011 Author Posted September 13, 2011 It arrived today! Here's the lowdown... I'll start with an overall impression. Good. Not great, but not horrible, and for $280. I'm a very happy camper!! I've owned a few Edward's LPs and a Tokai. I would put this basically in the same ballpark. Lets start with the good. It actually plays really well. The setup is perfect. Nice fret dressing, no rough edges (I've bought brand-new USA guitars that cost 10 times as much with horrible fret dressing.) Action is really good, no buzzes or fretting issues. The neck is pretty chunky, similar to a Gibby '58 shape. I'm not a fan of big necks, but this isn't that bad, the finish on the neck is fast and smooth. Frets are jumbos which I like. The pickup is decent. I'll replace it with something better. Could I play it as is, absolutely. In fact, I did play it for a solid hour when I got it like a kid at Christmas. The P/U sounds like a pretty hot, over-wound tone. Some guys might actually like it! The tuners are nice and tight and holds tune well. It's pretty light at 8lbs, 2oz. considering it doesn't have the neck pickup/routing wood removed. The pots are full size, not the mini jobs you find on a lot of import guitars. I'll mess around with swapping the pickup and pots (simple with a 1 p/u guitar.) The top is solid maple wood, not a veneer or photo-flame, like some of the Tokai's. OK, now the not so good. I'm not 100% sure it's a one-piece solid body, it has some funky seams on the edges in 2 places, but not on the back? Hmmm. The full neck is not a one-piece like I thought. It's a "V" seamed neck near the nut and has a joint by the body, that IS pretty common on Edwards LP's and other imports. But, the mahogany on neck is really flamed and looks freakin' damn cool. Overall, the finish is good, but, there are some off-color stain marks under the finish in a few spots, not horrible, but you can notice it. I'm not sure if it's lacquer or poly, but it doesn't feel like cheap, thick poly, it feels and looks really nice. I bet the solid color versions would be really cool as you wouldn't see the V neck seam and the the stain errors. A couple of the tuners are a tiny bit off center and I don't like the slightly green tint to the tuner buttons, but hell, Gibson did the ugly green tint tuners too. Lastly, the wrap-tail is pretty cheap and will go too. Easy swap. So, overall, its really not bad. Was it worth $280. shipped... absolutely! But, not worth $500.+ For that, you could get a nicer overall used guitar. With a few swaps here and there from my used parts bin, it'll be a real nice player and I still can't get over how cool the flame on the neck is, damn! Update: Playing it some more, I think the wind on the pickup sounds more like a P90. It has some really raunchy overtones. I'll try to post a clip today.
