burningyen Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 Some of you Bigsby users (or ex-Bigsby users) might appreciate this one:http://www.vibramate.com/vibramate-string-spoiler.php
GusS Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 to me every guitar needs a bigsbyim glad the vibramate company is aroundthanks for posting this!
santellavision Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 I still think the Tom Anderson mod is the best overall way to improve Bigsby's. Easy to do, drill out the pins and run the strings through the bar. All slippage and tuning issues are solved.
burningyen Posted September 14, 2011 Author Posted September 14, 2011 The nice thing about the Spoiler is it's reversible and supposedly increases the Bigsby's pitch range.
zorrow Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 BTW, can one install a Bigsby on a Flying V without using the hideous Lonnie Mack mounting kit?
cmatthes Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 BTW, can one install a Bigsby on a Flying V without using the hideous Lonnie Mack mounting kit? No.But Vibramate makes one now.Ernie - I bought one of those modded Bigsbys from Tom a year or so ago - that mod just makes perfect sense. It's currently in Stike's top secret lab awaiting it's fate...
crunchee Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 The String Spoiler sounds really neat, provided it lives up to it's promises...and you don't have to have anything machined to use it. Paul Bigsby would be proud, IMHO.
cmatthes Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 That's really cool, but for $59.95 + S/H (for the gold version I'd need for my M3), I'll pass. Changing strings on a Bigsby isn't THAT bad!
RobB Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Great idea! I'm glad the Vibramate company is out there. Their products make Bigsbys much more usable, IMO. Did the Anderson mod to my Gretsch vibrato. Never going back to "stock."
Gino Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 I just got the String Spoiler and put it on my Newport together with a set of Grover Rotogrip locking tuners.Big improvement !!
Disturber Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 I just never had any problems restringing my Newport. It takes 15 minutes, tops. Just bend the damn strings sharp by the little ball end, put the on, hold down with your fingers and tune up. Jeez, you guys are so girlie when it comes to mechanical stuff, you need a real man at the house
Steve Haynie Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 The Anderson mod is so simple you have to wonder why that was never part of the original Bigsby design. It would seem easier and cheaper to drill six holes than to insert six thin pegs.

Stike made more progress on it in about 30 minutes than I had in all those years.Maybe I lack motivation...
gi_zuk Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 BTW, can one install a Bigsby on a Flying V without using the hideous Lonnie Mack mounting kit?I have a B5 Bigsby Vibramate on a Flying V. It works well and and I don't have many tuning issues with it.I also recently bought a B7/"Mack" vibramate that I plan to install. I have to modify it a little bit to work with a left handed B7.

Just changed strings in less than 5 minutes with no four-letter words!! How many Katrinas did this guitar go through? What's it? Looks teleish from the bridge pup and gibonish from the controls. The bridge is interesting too.

The bridge is interesting too. Katrina didn't get this one, I did! The rust is from my sweat! It's a 1974 Telecaster Custom with factory Bigsby, one wide range bucker and one tele bridge pickup and LP style controls, my favorite Tele model, very versatile. The bridge is aftermarket, it's called the Mastery Bridge. It solves alot of the problems caused by the stock bridge ( a Jazzmaster bridge) like strings hanging up and unwanted bridge movement. I play in a country/Americana band and this is my workhorse guitar, changing strings on it WAS a pain in the ass!
mudshark Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 I'm going to order one of those little gizmos; thanks for posting that.
