A good friend, local trubador, heck of a slide player, Chris Caldwell dropped off his beloved, very dear to him Les Paul Classic. I have been working, maintaining this guitar since I have been in Nashville.

Chris sweats battery acid. Nothing lasts for a while on this guitar, not even the finish. He was an EMG endorser far a bit while on tour and had the full boat push pull mamjamma in this thing while on tour.

He never liked it, but, the tour payed the bills at that time, and EMG thru everything at Him. Moving forward,

Chris drops it off for a day at the spa while he and family enjoy the Holidays retreat of the road. The only thing he requeted was EMG removal, back to prior pups, and a setup. I should of taken some pics prior to the doings, but I was not thinking. The LP smells so bad. A cocktail of His sweat and nicotene, bar juices, etc. made it a real stinker. The Nitro was gummy. Naptha got nowhere on it. So, I wet dried it down ant top coated it to keep it all together for another 10 years. Got all buffed out and prettied.

Chris always wanted some true single coil sounds to be diverse. I ordered some cool stuff that would do it and then some. All in all, when Chris came over last night to receive... He had no idea. Smiled like a chesire cat. :)

Murkat mod, known as the "maple flame" mod.

Oldschool braided switchcraft assembly.

Chris hates stock gibson tips. Custom as it gets ;)

He also does the overwrap on the T/P, but has to use additional string donuts to

back the strings out so the winds do not wrap over. Took care of that.

The switching alows single coil selection in single coil and or humbucking combined

then added the push pull to add another option and more. This works very well

and highly recomend it if you want that option. And it is very quiet for being single coil modes.

Dude is totally stoked.

The KK gets some Love. This KK is a tank. It is thicker than most Vectors I have encountered by almost 1/8"

small mini switch hole will be filled, and replace the bondo on the neck repair (which is very solid)

And a bonus, the serial # is intact under the repair overspray.

Brilliant. I may be sending some tailpieces your way. Can you do this with light-weight aluminum?

Posted

Yes i can. this one done is a light weight T/P.

it is no beauty queen, but works very well.

You can see a good shot of it mounted on the guitar as well. ^

Guitar looks great, but those green inlays...

ugh...What were they thinking?

dunno, Dude loves it. All that matters. He hates creme plastic parts too.

But loves the use to be gold metal rings...

But,

they were so oxidized, and thru off the pickup alignment being flat to the guitar

not level to the strings, I made up a pair of creme rings that would do what needed,

glued them to the metal rings and then shot them with tint and lacquer to match

the inlays and agedness of the binding. happy day. He liked :)

Nothing major on the bondo thingy on the KK.

I cocktail the glue with tint to match the woods and little bit of wood dust.

Let it setup for a couple of days...

Always genius, m'man.

hung out at NTL yesterday with The Man, who did a neck reset and other magic bits to my Better Half's Mandobird. She's totally happy with how "buttery" it plays now.

Some major projects were discussed, and parts are being ordered. Nothing is impossible in Murkat-Land...

I am guessing this will be avail for sale end of Feburary ish...

If I hadn't seen the "before" picture, I'd almost be calling you a liar for saying that that had a mini-switch there before. Nice work!

My KK's were actually thinner-bodied than my korina Vector. Wonder if that was ordered that way? I really liked the ones I had and only sold the maple topped one because I was playing bass in bands at the time.

I wonder if they all had the veneer on top? I have a refinned black one here that also suffered a neck break and the refin is now looking very "relic-like".

Fun guitars. That one reminds me of this one that I owned for a while.

I had a candy apple red one that had a tiny chip on the edge that I drop filled. It had a flame maple veneer over the mahogany.

Maybe they made them all the same and decided which ones to paint what color when they "crossed that bridge" (as opposed to building each one individually)?

Unless they thought that the 1/16th inch thick maple veneer effected the tone in some way.
