murkat Posted May 18, 2012 Author Posted May 18, 2012 I had to relay to Chris during our conversation...The neck and top is some of the hardest maple I have ever encountered.3 dremel bits toast, one broke.10 belts of coarse sanding for my rotorary.dulled 3 chizel blades.Stupid hard as rock maple.
Stike Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 This is headed to NC for some ROWYCO magic next, but I'll definitely be sure to share the end result here. What? You mean there is going to be metal flake flames over the maple? Not at all! It's not all flake all the time around here.
serial Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 Of course mine will have it...!CMatthes-get rid of that font, dude!

gorch Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 Man, you guys have projects going on right now that set my brain dancing. Cool stuff Chris!
whiskeyzulu Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 Nice build, well done Murkat!Looking forward to seeing Stike's magic.B/t/w how thick is that top it looks like 3/4"
cmatthes Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 The flame maple billet I had for the top was 2.25" thick, I had it split and planed into two 1" boards, then matched/joined. I then had it mounted onto a lightweight Korina blank and worked from there. I think the final thickness after it was milled down and the top carved is somewhere around 1/2" in the center. Here's what it looked like exactly a year ago: This was the body at the end of last summer, pre-Murkat magic:

cmatthes Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 notice the corrected cutaway horn... before^ after v Thanks for catching that, Jay! That bugged me from the start, and I kept meaning to mention something to you about it and totally spaced. You da man...
zenmindbeginner Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 Really awesome stuff. I've never heard of the Baker brand before (must be guitars for the jet set) but am blown away by the purity and attention to detail that this project is full of.Cool as s**t.
cmatthes Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 I believe that this one is winging its way to NC right now, or if not, it will be shortly. Hopefully, I'll be getting the report from Stike soon as well!
cmatthes Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 It just arrived in NC late on Friday afternoon.Stike was busy doing some flakey stuff over the weekend, so it's probably in the wings somewhere at the ROWYCO shop right now. There are some developments on its sparklier "twin" though, from what I'm hearing...

There are some developments on its sparklier "twin" though, from what I'm hearing... Yep. Or should I have bumped the Inferno thread? I don't know why the holes for the bridge and pickup rout remind me of Domo.
