deadringer Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Well I finally got myself a Korina Vector. Big thanks to wknight2 for this one. Definitely took some convincing for him to let it go. Also, gotta thank Greg for convincing me to get it as well. Killer guitar and beautiful as well. Not a huge fan of the tort., but it's growing on me. Tuner bushings are a little finicky. Had a loose one that took me forever to get tight again. I know you guys have probably seen pics of it before, but here she is again. Go big or go home right?
specialk Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 She's a beauty! Fantastic board on her. The tort guard really complements it. Big congrats!
dobieboy Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Since no one else has, I'd like to call dibs and an opening bid of tree fiddy, if you please! outstanding guitar!!You should post pics f the V and Explorer together!
Disturber Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 That is a nice one! She's almost becoming an official HFC board slut now. How many times has she been up for sale here? Must be at least five times. Nothing wrong with that. When you get tired of her I'll take her. She's stunning!
cmatthes Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Not sure how many times that one has changed hands, but there were a few built with those specs. They are far more impressive in person!
G Man Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Now that is drop-dead sexay right there. Love the tort. over korina, and the binding, just got it going on.Guess its true that good things come to those who wait.rock on.
deadringer Posted August 18, 2013 Author Posted August 18, 2013 Thanks guys, I plan on making an honest woman out of her.
a.bandini Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Go big? You went HUGE! Congratulations on a beautiful V!
oldskoolrulz Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Man that thing is SEXY! And myself, never been a fan of tortoise or gold hardware, but that guitar was made for both! Congrats on the new acquisition!!!
BTMN Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Bet that is a great Vector! Big Thumbs Up. I see we have similar tastes in these fields. I wanted a "Korina" V and Explorer real bad after seeing a pair of the Ibanez issues in late 1975. Not even knowing at first they were Ash or Alder IIRC. Then I started to learn about what they really were representative of, the '58 Flying V and Explorer from Gibber, and I REALLY wanted some then. My first set of a V and Explorer was a 4 digit Vector from 1979 and a 1979 Standard. Still have the Standard and STUPIDLY traded the Vector in 1986. Funny thing is I now have a set of Hamers, a 2004 Vector and a 1996 Standard from the run of 100. I also have Czech made Deans in the V and Z format but I have never even owned a Gibber V or Explorer in Mahogany or Korina.
deadringer Posted August 23, 2013 Author Posted August 23, 2013 Thinking about getting a new guard for this. The tort. isn't doing it for me. Also, the tuners are no bueno. The threaded bushings on the treble side wanna back out occasionally. Might change those as well to some locking Kluson style, so no real mods. What do you guys think, 4-ply white/black? OR... 5-ply black/white?
zorrow Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 I prefer the white one, but black's OK too. In either case, I'm with you. The tortoise doesn't look very good.
Jackass Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 The tortoise rod cover was so flimsy, I hated putting it on. How about a transparent rod cover and pickgaurd? Do you like the Brazilian rosewood board? I hate them. Hate victory inlays too. Have you had any issues with the 3-way switch? People in the past have had problems with the 3-way on the V's. They always work fine when they leave. Must be an Italian thing. Isn't that multi-ply binding absolutely fucking insane? Nice job Newman60 and Northfield.Bm

Bm This is how I feel about the multi-ply binding. Just phenomenal. No issues with the toggle, and I'm good with victories and the Brazilian rosewood.
