Ting Ho Dung Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 My son seems to destroy Snarks. So I would not recommend them. I got him something else this last time that seems to be better. I'll txt him and see what it was and get back with you. I've never personally used one.
specialk Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 I like mine. The Zoid 1000. Got it from Elduave, but here is the Amazon link:http://www.amazon.com/Sabine-Clip-On-Tuner-Stringed-Instruments/dp/B001GMVBEKI've had it for a few years now and it still works great.
Ting Ho Dung Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Brandon says it's a Planet Waves mini. I found this link on Amazon. This may be it. http://www.amazon.com/Planet-Waves-JF-PW-CT-12-Kit01-Headstock-Tuner/dp/B0073XCZ3C/ref=sr_1_5?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1377442004&sr=1-5&keywords=planet+waves+clip+on+tuners
RichRS6 Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 I have one not sure what it is though.Talking of tuners I rather liked the P/U rings with a tuner built in used by Steve Stevens check out the gear rundown on here somewhere..
Feynman Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 The new Snark (SN-8) is great. It's bright, it's fast, it's cheap. $11.34 on Amazon, or $11.70 will get a Planet Waves pick sampler included - both Prime eligible if that's how you roll.I wish I could fault it since some of the others are sexier, but this thing is great.
BubbaVO Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Snarks are a good idea. I've had one and given them as gifts. But they all broke. The Planet Waves headstock tuner is pretty good. But now I mostly use the Guitar Tuna app on my iphone. Works pretty well.
Toadroller Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Buy a couple of them, keep them here, there and everywhere. I flick the power switch, tune up, flick the standby and then play.Snark's have been quick and accurate. One broke, but a little epoxy got it back together.

He probably plays more than the average bear so maybe they don't stand up as well as the Planet Waves. He's walked up to the ACE hardware store several times for new batteries but that doesn't seem to fix them.
RobB Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 I like the Peterson Strobo-clip. Expensive compared to the competition, but it shares features and sweetened tunings with other Peterson "Strobo" products. It is sturdily built and heavier than other, cheaper clip-ons, so you may/may not like keeping it clipped on your headstock all the time. The "capo" and "acoustic" parameters rule.
RCM78 Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 I have three of the red snarks. They're about a year old and no issues except for a few batteries.
hamerhead Posted August 29, 2013 Author Posted August 29, 2013 I really like the design of the Planet Waves/D'Addario unit, but haven't tried/bought anything yet.Keep 'em coming!
Ralph Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 I have the Boss TU-10. Works great and is a little sturdier than the Snark.
tomteriffic Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 I caught a sale on the original Snarks at Sweetwater a while back and bought two. I twisted my bassist's arm and he got a couple too. We're easy on our gear (I don't know if that's a factor) and make sure to turn them off after using them. All 4 are still working fine. They're pretty accurate, but a bit slow when sneaking up on "zero".No experience with the Planet Waves, but I like the "behind the headstock" default attachment.Oh, and the LCD screens on the Intellitouch ones from days gone by are useless.
stonge Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 I like the Planet Waves Ned Steinberger designed mini tuner; it's small and unobtrusive and I usually just leave it on the back on the headstock (conversely, they are small and easy to misplace lol). It also seems more accurate than my Snark (I tune the low E string on the Snark, and recheck on a Peterson strobe and it is a little sharp - sharp enough that I can hear the low G in an open chord being off). Get the twin pack, so you can find at least one of them lol.
serial Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 I use a pink Hello Kitty one that Tombo sent me.
mirrorimij Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 I have one of these. I would recommend it. Its as good as the Snark I have and it,s $8 shipped. http://www.amazon.com/Fender-Accessories-009-1160-000-Clipon-Chrome/dp/B005MR6IHK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1377960598&sr=8-1&keywords=Fender+tuner
Hamerhack Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 My son gave me this: Intellitouch PT10.It lights up green when in tune, so I don't have to don my ever increasingly strong reading glasses while trying to look cool at a jam.
elduave Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 We stocked Intellitouches back in the day when they looked like fem. hygiene products. They were sort of the first, but I *never* liked the way they responded. Loved the Zoid response and readout, but I did break one walking off stage as my headstock brushed against a curtain. The Snark responds well but it's sort of blatant, and the old Planet Waves mini's were too small. They have redesigned the PW and they're making a big deal out of it. D'addario is way on top of product tweaking after release so I imagine they're great. Would be what I grab next off the shelf.
hamerhead Posted September 5, 2013 Author Posted September 5, 2013 And after reading the reviews and listening to you guys, I went and got a 2-pack of those tiny (and I mean tiny) Planet Waves/D'Addario tuners. It won out because I liked the design the best, as they didn't appear too big or as fragile as some of the others. It slides up perfectly between the tuners on my Taylor, quickly turns red then yellow then green when you're in tune, and the display is just big enough (just over a 1/4" high, just over 5/8 long) and bright enough to be easy to read. I hope it lasts, but at $13 a pop you won't go broke replacing it.I haven't checked it against other tuners yet, but when you're tone deaf, it shouldn't be an issue. Thanks guys. The HFC does it again!
