oldskoolrulz Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 FIrst of all, I'm sure there were others here wanting these and all I can say is sorry, I went after them pretty aggressively by offering the seller his asking price PLUS PP fees and shipping. After a couple of exchanges via PM, I knew it was meant to be when I discovered the seller only lived 45 minutes from me! Then we spoke via phone call around lunch today, and after that conversation the deal was pretty much done... So we made arrangements for me to come to the seller's house this evening to check out the guitars, cash in hand. After getting there we took a few minutes to talk, and then it was time to see the goods after a few more minutes of discussing how he came about them, I could tell that this was truly tough on him letting 'em go so I did make a vow, and that was if I were to need to sell at some point down the road myself that I would give him first shot at getting them back. Felt it was the least I could do, and I will keep my word on that... Ok, that's my story and I'm sticking to it! Getting a little late to do much jammin' tonight, but plan on playing them both after a fresh string change tomorrow evening. And of course my camera batteries were dead, so they are charging now and I will put up some pics here in a few...
marcnorth Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Cool story for the doubters, and congrats again on the score!
TBP Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Congratulations and that's a great promise to make. And to the seller. Sorry you had to let them go. If it's any consolation, I like many people have had patches where I've had to make similar hard decisions, but I got through them and eventually came out of it, usually better, even if just for the appreciation of doing so.
oldskoolrulz Posted January 28, 2014 Author Posted January 28, 2014 A few other tidbits: these were made in 2006, not 2007 but no biggie there. the humbucker model has been played more and shows some minor wear, but again not a big deal and I am planning on playing them both anyway. the p90 model is almost nos, not a blem that i can find. also, no COA's or paperwork with these, not sure why the seller would not have gotten any but they are the real deal so i'm not gonna sweat that either... hope to get some better pics at some point, but these will have to do for now
cmatthes Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Cool guits! Did the seller change the pickups in the HB model?
Shark Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Cool story. Cool guitars. Congrats and sure enjoy!
Montelovesco Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 A biiiig WOW! from Gemany. The name "Burst Brothers" is already in use, I think...
Disturber Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Wow. Foggedabout giving him first dibs on buying them back, I want that P90 Sunburst. Congrats. You scored two MILF's in one shot.
RichRS6 Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Super cool, and no apologies required.Judging from the pics I think you were right to pursue them and nail them both pronto. You've got the bug bad now, it's a slippery slope but a great ride.
Andrew Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Super Sunburstastic!Love the Schaller 'but still look like Grovers' machines. Was that a special request?
RichRS6 Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 I noticed the machine heads too, Schallers but with tuning keys shaped like Grovers..........No bullseyes though !!
BTMN Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 What a Pairing!!! I too WANT that P90!!! YUM!!!!
ARM OF HAMER Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Congrats!................Sounds like it was meant for you to have these as he turned out to be so close to you,.amazing guitars!
hamerhead Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Those are great. The Sustain Blocks - are those Hamer-made or 2FIG or mine or ?Congrats on a monster score.
Bobby Marshall Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 The p90 seems to be the favorite. She has "it". Wonder if she could have been the hfc model in an alternate universe where Hamer did not stray from it's roots and continued to pave the road it started and became the one to fill the space currently occupied by other guitar makers.
oldskoolrulz Posted January 28, 2014 Author Posted January 28, 2014 Cool guits! Did the seller change the pickups in the HB model?Yep, the bridge is a Dimarzio 36th Anniversary PAF and I believe he said the neck was a SD '59 which is original to the guitar? would have preferred the it had all original equipment but wasn't a deal breaker, may end up doing a p/u swap at some point anyway on that one...
Hamerica Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Cool story for the doubters, and congrats again on the score!Pretty much sums it up right there and as oldskoolrulz stated " I knew it was meant to be when I discovered the seller only lived 45 minutes from me!" Call me "oldskool" however, I believe in that Karma or whatever you want to call it. Glad to see the seller move them to someone in the family and good luck to the new curator. Tone Report Please! Hamerica
rcgpny1 Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 The humbucker equipped one came with 2 SD '59's.....funny thing they said they would not make the guitar with exposed coils(!?!), So...I removed the cover from the '59 in the neck and replaced the '59 that was in the bridge pos with the Dimarzio...If I'm not mistaken my original#7 0013 had Dimarzios.... BY the way you guys promised me you had info on #7 0013. Is it still around...is it in one piece? Boy we get attached to these, dont we?
Steve Haynie Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Can we all come over and try out the new pair of Sunbursts?
oldskoolrulz Posted January 28, 2014 Author Posted January 28, 2014 Can we all come over and try out the new pair of Sunbursts? not a prob, just make sure to give a little notice
oldskoolrulz Posted February 2, 2014 Author Posted February 2, 2014 So I paid a visit to murkat today to let him check out the twins and to also do a p/u swap in the HB model, went with dimarzio 36th ann PAF's for both neck and bridge to be as period correct as possible. also swapped out the knobs for black gibson speed knobs, just like on the early models in the late 70's. my goal was to make it as close to the original as possible, i think it turned out most excellent
murkat Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 well,you guys missed out.Both fantastic guits,But that P90 sunburst.... omg. No words can...maybe one,Amazing.
