edgar_allan_poe Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 .....what would you guys consider to be the Shishkov of car tires?
RichRS6 Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 For what vehicle, type of use and for winter or summer.
Boomerang~Junkie Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Can we narrow the field on this a bit: SUV/Off road, sports car or regular street tires?
The Shark Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 I have Continental Extreme Contact DW tires on my Lexus. They are reasonably priced and they handle the daily showers here in Florida very well. Best suited for a 4-door sport coupe style car. Really smooth and quiet. Strong through the turns too. German company, but mine are made in the USA.http://www.continentaltire.com/www/tires_us_en/themes/car_tires/performance/extremecontact_dw_en.html?page=1
velorush Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Dude: Cooper - great quality, USA-made and very reasonably priced. Hmmm, the Hamer, er, Shishkov of tires?Running them currently on a full-sized car and a large SUV. Have also run them with great effect on a small truck and a mid-sized sedan.
Sugartune Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 I have Continentals for both winter and summers. I like them both.
Boomerang~Junkie Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Continentals for road, B.F. Goodrich A/T's or M/T's for off road. I agree, ^^ Cooper ^^ is hard to beat for the value though.
Ting Ho Dung Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Go get some used tires. 4 4 a hundred out the door.
Uncle Thor's Hamer Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Pirelli or Yokohama for street performance. No, not made in USA unfortunately.Firestone for winter tires.
hamerhead Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 I put Bridgestone Duelers on the Escape just to get rid of the howling Michelin Latitudes (worst noise I've ever experienced from a tire). The Bridgestones are dead quiet and were great last winter.

mc2 Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Man....tires are one of those things I never buy new....sort of like guitars There are so many used tire places near me that it just makes no sense. I can get a really good matched set of name brand tires with like 80% or better thread on them for around $100 installed and spin balanced...instead of spending almost $1,000 for new at a dealer. Always seems like a great deal to me....like getting a new set of tires, plus cash to buy another guitar. ....plus I don't have to wash the blue off the sidewalls, like on new tires

Always seems like a great deal to me....like getting a new set of tires, plus cash to buy another guitar. ....plus I don't have to wash the blue off the sidewalls, like on new tires There was a used tire dealer in my area. He would travel to Maryland every month to come back with a load of tires because Maryland requires all used cars sold by dealers to be sold with a new set of tires. That is where the good used tires in your area probably come from. Michelins go on my car. No one around here switches out tires for winter anymore.
Armitage Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 All weather Michelins for me too. My wife and I had identical cars but hers came with Firestones... She left work and hour before I did due to snow, and we both pulled into the gas station by our house at the same time. I thought it was just her driving skills. I told her to park at the plaza and we'd go out for dinner... she parked really badly and claimed it was the car... I got mad saying I have the same car and so tried to park the car better, I couldn't do any better. So we drove over to the Michelin dealer and put on the same tires as on my car. Bingo, it drove great. The money you save on cheap tires doesn't cover the bother of getting stuck in snow or the cost of slamming into the car in front of you in bad weather.
aknapp Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 GoodYear PolyGlas GT Es These go on ALL my 1970's 1:24 scale model cars!
spanky Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 Check out the Tire Rack test, survey, and review results. That is how I buy my tires. You can also find the current rebate program details.
Cary Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 If you still have the Deville, go with the Michelins. And get them road force balanced. I just put Pirellis on the Navigator only because they were cheaper than Michelins, but it still left a pretty big empty space in my wallet.
