Nathan of Brainfertilizer Fame Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 Here's a good example of one way to use them:https://youtu.be/0yK6S6qjj4A
dhuber Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 Oh Yes, if only I could be that loose when I play.
Michael_B Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 That was fantastic. Thanks for sharing it.My favorite example of excellent looping is this. There's just something about that video... I can't put my finger on it.

I can't put my finger on it. Double dogs for the win. She's got a sweet voice. Here's another looping style: And a very different track (also from Andre LaFosse): I've used a strangely large number of loopers for someone who's been a hobbyist for the last decade. Strangely I like something about all of the ones I've used: JamMan - built in metronome and CF jack make using this as a scratch composer/recorder a breeze. Dump it to PC periodically for cataloging and review. Best for layering multi-part arrangements and part to part changes. Boomerang III - great multi-loop control (up to four independent loops), a bunch of great creative options including various combinations of sequential and parallel loops, time sync'd or free-running El Capistan - It's sound-on-sound mode is great simple fun and has a great vintage sort of vibe with all their tape age, etc. controls. Echoplex Digital Pro - I'm just barely starting to dig into this one, but it's got some of the most forward thinking creative looping controls on a (formerly) production device that I've seen.
JimiH Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 First experience of looping came from this Excellent! Geoff
Tres Aardvarks Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 Here you go. Excellent!!!! I've seen plenty of loopers get used, but always just for the guitar. Definitely some good ideas there about using it as a solo performer
alantig Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 FYI - the Akai Headrush (that's the looper KT uses) is being blown out by Akai in their eBay store.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Akai-E2-Headrush-Delay-Echo-Looper-Guitar-Effect-Pedal-/221717123973?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item339f5ed385
killerteddybear Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 Thanks for the tip, I grabbed one!You could spend more on a meal and dump it out in eight hours...
Tres Aardvarks Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 Only issue I see with the headrush is the short loop time. I was looking to get one long enough to have a whole verse or chorus structure looping, and the Headrush won't cut it (damn it)

gorch Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 The Boss DD-7 has a looper built in. Occasionally use it. Timing is not easy if its not time controlled.I'd like to have one midi clock controlled one time. Still an investment though.
Camstone Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 I do a lot of solo gigs and have used a Boss RC2 loop station for years.I just recently replaced it with this Ditto X2. It's killer. Can record and loop up to 5 minutes.http://www.tcelectronic.com/ditto-x2-looper/My standard joke is "this allows me to play with myself on stage and not get arrested".

It's a great practice tool for chops, and it helps you figure out what goes and doesn't go with tones in a given key.Mrs. and the little Toadrollers say it sounds like three blind mice to them, but it's music to my ears.
jwhitcomb3 Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 I only have experience with the Boomerang III, and really like it. Small footprint for 5 switches, and the short throw makes precise switching possible. Great sound quality and intelligent options to meet many setups and applications. I have mine setup for vox and guitar, and find plenty of uses for it.
Michael_B Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 This may be a dumb question about loopers: what are the advantages of using a looper instead of using a DAW to create loops? Simply, that it's a quicker and easier set-up?

Simply, that it's a quicker and easier set-up?I suppose using them on the fly - live - is the biggest advantage. I'm trying to add some looper stuff to my acoustic show. I have an old Digitech JamMan
Ting Ho Dung Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 I hadn't had time to look at this yet but maybe these lessons can help. I've been wanting to use my looper and was glad to see this come in my mailbox.http://www.premierguitar.com/articles/22371-digging-deeper-practicing-with-loops

Since I only play in my house, a big part of the advantage of loopers doesn't apply to me.

I may just have to pick up that Ditto X2. I will be cruising around Tampa, today.

If you're playing an 8-beat pattern and you don't cut it on the one, you'll find out really quickly.
Michael_B Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 Yeah, I'm scoring that as an advantage to the DAW, in my case.
