G Man Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 Been a while, so good to see this thread. As always, you are the master. rock on.
Bloozguy Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 I'm anxious to see the SG when you're done with it... And what's that red single cutaway thing?...looks like it might be a Guild Starfire III
murkat Posted February 3, 2016 Author Posted February 3, 2016 I am doing the jr. red over white like I did with a SG special few years back. Yes, an old 65ish starfire with mini hums. wish I took a completed pic of it. Monster of a guitar with the fretjob and few other things.
svl Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Good to see this post, my friend. Been missing your magic.
Jakeboy Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Well, if that doesn't induce GAS, nothing will.....
atomicwash Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Here is a Sunburst Jay transformed into a wonderful guitar. One of my favorites. He cured a sticky finish on most of the guitar, repainted the headstock, and refretted; turned it from a used guitar into a killer player.
Steve Haynie Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Everything looks so good I'll take one of everything!
atomicwash Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Here is the '65 Starfire III Jay recently finished. I was not tickled with the vintage frets, so I had Jay do his magic. He potted the pickups, refretted, new nut, and setup (1/32" gap between bottom of strings to top of frets - no buzz). The guitar is close to stock except for the TruArc bridge and new base. The bridge base is pinned and I had a sound block glued between the top and back to reduce feedback. The pickups are unbelievable found somewhere between a Tele and a humbucker.
crunchee Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Jay does stellar work! I dig the Gibson end table, too.
tbonesullivan Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Wooowoo! Looks awesome! Should one of my guitars need some help, I know where to send it.
bubs_42 Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Just checked out a Starfire at a local shop yesterday. Tobacco Burst, one owner with worn the correct way. I LOVE THE LARGE HEADSTOCK FENDERS!
bondedbybrick Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Jay, 8 0402 is pre-sustain block, correct? Plus it has the shorter, smoother headstock.Very Nice!!
