Travis Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 Topic for this evening: is there any guitar you wish Hamer had made but they didn’t/wouldn’t? I might give my left nut for a Koa topped Talladega... what did you have on your wish list that will never be realized...?
mirrorimij Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 All mahogany Archtop GT p90 Goldtop. Jol himself had an all mahogany 50s Les Paul that he claims was a monster. They wouldn’t do it without the hard rock maple top because the paint would sink.

But didn’t Jol’s Les Paul have a solid finish on it...? If I remember correctly from the Hamer book, Jol scraped some paint off of that LP and was surprised to find it was all mahogany.
cmatthes Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 They wouldn't build me a Flametopped Studio Custom with a 3-coil in the bridge position, Sustainblock and Standard headstock. I repeatedly ordered it for years, and got multiple nonsensical reasons why they couldn't/wouldn't. Finally, as I was unpacking my son in Boulder for his first semester of college, and I knew my money would be tied up for a bit...I got a phone call saying I could order that guitar. Fuck.

Isn’t that always how it works...? Seriois question: I’ve had a couple of sustain block guitars plus my old ‘78 Sunburst that had the shimmed bridge. Between the sustain block and a wraptail a la junior, which would you choose? i mean, I’m guessing “sustain block” since that’s what you spec’d out. So, I suppose I answered my own question...
gtrdaddy Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 Throw shit at me I’d take the wrap tail. HEY! OW! Shit that hurt! Ooofah!
Steve Haynie Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 I kept asking for a lap steel. I wanted a Vector with a Bigsby like Lonnie Mack's guitar.

Steve Haynie Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 There were all mahogany Specials, Blitzes, Vectors, Standards, etc., some of which have had the mahogany grain show through the finish, so why would a sinking finish on a carved mahogany top be a problem?
Hbom Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 2019 Studio.Wrap tail of course. 2019 Artist Custom 2019 Newport Pro. 2019 Standard. 2019 DuoTone
Never2Late Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 A guitar the 'new crop' of Punk/Metal guitarists can't live without....something that would have kept the line moving, and made the company loads of profit. ANYTHING that would have had Fender re-thinking their decision to shutter the company.

hamerhead Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 If Hamer built a Les Paul - not a Monaco, but a dimensionally correct Custom/Standard/Deluxe LP - it would have been the greatest guitar ever. I always wanted a Les Paul built by Hamer.

Dave Scepter Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 Nothing... I think Hamer did an absolute excellent job in designing and manufacturing guitars that meet the needs for the vast majority of players~ That being said, I just wish they made more of them such as that sustain block Standard

joshoowah Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 All-koa Artist Custom with flamed maple binding and contrasting koa or maple fittings (pickup rings/p90 covers, truss rod cover, switch tip, knobs, and tuning buttons). Callaham TOM and tailpiece. P90s or hums, I'd buy it. We're dreaming here, right?

"especially now that the wood has aged" the only thing I would change is to make the headstocks triangular but I can honestly live with the paddle shape
crunchee Posted June 23, 2019 Posted June 23, 2019 Funny how the list of "Guitars you wish Hamer had made" turned into "Guitars that Jol said no to" real quick. If Hamer had figured out the licensing details for a whole run, instead of a custom one-off where the customer got the permission from Marvel themselves, I wouldn't have minded a 'Punisher' Standard.
