Ibanez RG 560 (I think it's an 88 or 89) I picked up six or seven months ago for pretty damn cheap for what MIJ guitars seem to be going for these days.. Fixed the electronics in it, and it ended up being probably my favorite shredder that I own.

Up until about a year and a half ago, this was my "beater" upright bass. Unfortunately, one of the old amateurish neck resets/rebuilds gave way and that was that. It really needs a new neck, fingerboard and neck block. There's not enough good material left to work with. I discovered that the last "repair" was done using a piece of paint stirring stick as a shim!

my 96 epiphone my brother bought new with his  first summer job money,  I promptly inherited it a year later when he never learned to play and it started living in my bedroom as i played it constantly.  My dad made him whole that year and bought it from my brother as a gift to me for hs graduation.  This guitar traveled up and down the west coast while i was in college and went out east to New york afterwards with me to play in a band for a year.  Its seen more gigs than any other guitar I’ve owned and survived  26 years with me. I cant recall how many times ive rewired it.  Its had at least 6 replacement switches in it.  I used to go through one every 2 years with the damn stutter sound id use it for.      I sometimes think about taking of the stickers i put on it 20 years ago but it almost seems wrong to do so at this point.  If it wasn’t coated in an 1/8” of polyester im betting id have worn through the finish years ago   Im not joking about the thickness either.  The headstock from the side looks like it had a pane of glass glued to the top the finish is so thick.    I once threw it off my shoulder with no regard for how it would land as i started getting into a fight after being spit on by a band mate.   Lets just say this guitar has had more malt liqour spilled on it than most people ever drink .

Currently it resides quietly in the basement jealous of a Korina explorer.  Hey at least it got some cts pots and nice pickups to replace the emgs i kept in it for  years.

It should also be noted this is the most rock solid guitar ive ever had   It never needs the truss rod adjusted unless dtring gauge is changed and it hold tune better than any other guitar ive owned

Tommy, that one only qualifies if it has a milk crate bungee corded to the bed with rusty can of brake cleaner or starter fluid inside it.

Green grass! Where in the country?

Just west of Richmond, VA.  It's fescue so it starts to come back as soon as we get a few warm days and some rain, which we have had.  Temps have been back down to normal for the last few days and will continue for a while.  Highs in the 50s, lows in the 30s.  Then one day - BLAM!  It will just turn warm, we'll have the annual pollen blizzard, and the grass will start growing like crazy.  I already filled my mower gas cans so I'm ready.

Drop a 350 in that bad boy, and you'll get all the dirty leg Pearl, Mississippi, has to offer.

The Beater's back and sounds pretty awesome....

Got the bass back today with the Josh pickups installed.  I bought them two years ago just before I went through the year of having my parents pass away.  So the plan to install the pickups just got put to the side.  Once I started looking at it I decided I did not want to try to do the routing and took it to Guitar Repair of Tampa Bay where Mike worked on it.  He said he worked at Washburn and knew Joel and Paul.

I had bought a pick guard that was supposed to fit but he said it put the pickups too close to the bridge and so he made me another and measured some 59 P-Bases to get the pickup placement.  So far so much better.  Got time to do some tweaking on the bass amp  and deciding on new stickers and their placement... 🙂

Added a neck pup to the beater Ibby RG, and a new tailpiece to the (non beater) Ibby George Benson, both from guitarfetish.com

Snagged one of these like this one (sorry, I still can't get my own photos to upload for some reason, dangit!) last month at DGS, same color, more or less the same condition (used but not abused, with a few scrapes and scuffs), with gigbag for $195.  Nice thing is, it came with a newer Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder P/J PU set already installed.  Neck is straight and adjusts well, has a nice thick rosewood fretboard, it's lightweight at about 8 lbs. with a poplar body, and sounds surprisingly good (yes, acoustically too!).  Peavey made these from 1993-95, then changed the specs on this model to active PUs (which I hate)...of course, mine is the earlier passive model.  Me likey!  I only wish I'd found out about these earlier.

Again, this eight-year old Reverb ad is representative of what I picked up, though it's not the exact bass but it is pretty close; plus, the one in the ad is long gone:

1980 Special, been with me since about '89.  It's beat, but it always gets the job done.

If you want to shred, the RGs will definitely take care of you.
