PSA What the hell happened to this Les Paul? One of a kind?

As far as the asking price goes, just one word is needed:  GREED...everyone is asking high prices just because everyone else is.  Askin' ain't sellin', and I'm looking forward to price reductions across the board when the Post-Pandemic Market Crash finally happens.

Wasn’t there some sort of scandal with studio musicians modding their guitars to allow them to record  multiple tracks (two) at once. Being paid per track? I don’t know the facts, nor am I certain it’s not something I’ve made up…but it rings some sort of bell….if it’s true, I’m guessing that’s the “why”.

Maybe that is a prototype Steve Morse Les Paul that Steve rejected.

Or a JJ Cale abomination done in an intentional yet bizarre manner to make hobo chic a form of coolness.

Also, it's a franken tele with a strat neck. There are tons of franken strats / teles that are well thought out. I can't figure out any reason someone would have messed up a Les paul like that.

Then again EVH did kinda saw a giant V shaped block out of the bottom of the Ibanez Destroyer he probably used during the recording of Van Halen, so even the genius tinkers do some weird crap sometime. Kinda like Les Paul did.

I saw him play the very guitar with the Dixie Dregs back in the day. oAJFKIu.jpg

NICE!!! He's such a great player and also a great student of the guitar. He's had arthritis issues but has adapted his playing to compensate and still sounds incredible. No I'm not jaded because I have a Steve Morse guitar that I love.

EVH has stated he didn’t cut the Destroyer up until VHII or WACF. He stated that removing the chunk ruined the tone of the guitar as he cut it too close to the bridge IIRC.

I remember reading that it was one of the main guitars used during the recording of the first Van Halen Album, and probably others, until he butchered it. I seem to recall Pete Thorn doing a REALLY deep dive, and trying to decide which pickup was probably in the guitar at the time, as it eventually ended up with a super distortion, though others say it was a Mighty Mite.

So, the only thing about this thread that I cannot fathom is that Kizanski hasn't replied.

Good point!

Is he OK, or is the fruit too low hanging to pick?
