Guest pirateflynn Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 WOW.............What a killer guitar! It's been awhile but here it is: mini toggles gone decals gone original pickups, surrounds and electronics replacement bell cover replacement knobs, switchtip new frets re-finished top only A very rewarding experiance. I did a lot of the work myself but I MUST credit Eric Chaz for his awesome fretwork and set up, plus most of the final assembly. Pat Wilkins did the gorgeous paint. If you're in L.A. I highly recommend these guys. A big thank you to Greg Platzer for his online/ phone support and his good solid common sense. Here's a pic!

Hamer95USA Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 Hey pirateflynn, That's a great restoration of your old Sunburst. Guitar George
Kilroy is all about... Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 that's super cool....now, what to do about the matching 4-digit std???.. kilroy teases really, that's a beautiful hamer!
Stike Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Nice, for a paint nerd like me Pat Wilkins is something of a guru.
Guest pirateflynn Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 All said and done I have approx. $1,400 into this guitar.........not bad. It's plays beautifully, what a great neck and it speaks up with some authority! I love old Hamer's. Yes, Pat Wilkins has quite a rep. This black paint is unreal, it makes you want to jump in......The Black Sea! He did a great job. I'm glad you guys like it. Here's another pic:
Jack C Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Man, those old Carvin pickups just look stupid. The guitar looks amazing now. To my eye, a bound and crowned black Sunburst is about the prettiest guitar in the world.
LordOfTheThighs Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Excellant job on the re-finish. Very impressive. But couldn't you have at least kept a couple of the extra switches on it?
black magic Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 That is very nice indeed!! Congrats bro. What size neck on it? Jack.
Guest pirateflynn Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 That is very nice indeed!! Congrats bro. What size neck on it? Jack. I would call the neck a medium but it is smooth with no noticible changes in profile. As an example, I have '80 Special that starts off medium but gets bigger as you move to the upper registars.
black magic Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Yes, so it doesn`t have a tapered neck, some do and some don`t. Some like them and some don`t, I am indefferent as long as it isn`t too thin anywhere along the lines!! Jack.
Guest galejt Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 It looks like it has the slightly wider spacing at the bridge too. Excellent!
belgian Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Thanks, now I want a black one too Fantastic work !!!!!!!
