HNKHD (Happy New Korina Hamer Day!)
hamerhead replied to Jim85IROC's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
That is the only 're-boot' Hamer I've ever seen. Looks nice. Not that it matters, but where are they making those? -

Duotone - mod for three volumes
hamerhead replied to JOE_CPWE's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
A quick search shows nobody makes bell-shaped concentric knobs. Somebody might, but I didn't find it. You could keep two bell knobs in the first 2 positions by leaving them as regular volume controls, then use a concentric pot w/ master tone in the third. Just pleasepleaseplease don't drill it. -
Well lookie here. Beato does Wolfie.

There was nothing about that kid that didn't impress the hell out of me. He is absolutely on top of every facet of his music. Wicked talent there. -

Live at Budokan: Full Show!
hamerhead replied to Saul Goodman's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Back when bands weren't autotuned/pitchcorrected/computerized into a steaming pile and still sounded fucking great. I always forget just how good these guys were live. -
^^^But how brave do you want to be with a $3K guitar? Also, the ones used for pegboard - DON'T DO IT! Learnt the hard way - the 'weld' broke and dropped a relatively light guitar onto my LP. I was saddened by the occasion.

What I liked best about Ace was his sense of humor. Gene would sit with a stick up his ass and Ace would be cracking jokes in spite of himself. He also had some good riffs that a young wanna-be me could steal and show off to the girls. Thanks and R.I.P., Ace. Rock and Roll wouldn't have been the same without you.

NHD: Newport w/ Creamery Firebird pickups
hamerhead replied to MPR's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Love the sound of good Firebird pickups. And the Orange Sparkle finish is one of Hamer's best. If it wasn't for that damn Bigsby....... Congrats! -

I'm not a bass player, but that guy was amazing, way underrated. His lines rivaled any of the best out there. My older sister had the Moody Blues in heavy rotation back in the day so I had plenty of exposure. Weed out the overblown bits and there was a great band underneath. Prog before prog was cool? R.I.P., Mr. Lodge. And thank you.

First off - shut up, Arnie! EJ has been my favorite guitarist since Ah Via Musicom and I've never seen him live/in person. I've seen enough concert video to know he can get bogged down with technique sometimes where fluid simplicity would work better, but he just can't help himself. He always seems to be reaching for something, instead of just having fun and letting it rip. Still love him - his recorded soundscapes are the best. I wish I could have seen him 30 years ago. I can't remember when/if he played around here, but probably should go see him before one of us dies.
