  1. Whatever it is, it should have Boomers, a Sustain Block, and - a bit of a stretch - the old Standard headstock. That's what makes a Hamer. A flat-top Monaco Elite with those 3 options would be pretty nice.
  2. Guitar (DUH!!!!). It can be more expressive than voice or piano.
  3. +1 meeellion. With pics, or it didn't happen.
  4. AH YA BASTIDS!! Ya got me on that one! All day long I was catchin' 'em and throwin' 'em back. DAMMIT! Good one.
  5. Dammit Greg!! WE NEED MORE PICTURES!!! .....I know, I know - I have no patience.............
  6. Exactly. And it'll be the quickest hour of your life.
  7. Steve - that is a killer deal! That's very cool. I'm in if the kid needs help. Keep us posted. This is the guitar I bought from you. It plays really well and sounds good. Then that's a killer guitar as well. I'LL TAKE IT!!! And Steve takes care of his stuff - so Geoff, make sure this kid grabs it (and doesn't take it to school)!!!
  8. Steve - that is a killer deal! That's very cool. I'm in if the kid needs help. Keep us posted.
  9. Incredible. There are a couple pics in there that seriously turned my stomach. I honestly can't believe what I'm seeing........
  10. Yeah, I knew it was ugly when I opened the case for the first time - I just didn't know HOW ugly. The serial number was covered with barn paint (at least that's what it looked like) and I was pretty sure the only original part left on the body was the bridge. I was on the phone to Greg in a matter of minutes, and it was back on the big brown truck before the end of the day. I didn't know what to do. And it wasn't until Greg found the serial number that it was decided to fix it (the guy will take on ANYTHING!!). I can't wait to see it. I'm on the fence as far as trying to find period-correct parts, or slap some GregWinds/Triple Shots in there. On one hand, it'll never be a museum piece. On the other hand, how many really early ones are left out there? I dunno........ I gotta thank Frank (guitarzandstuff) for snagging this one for me. The guy didn't want to ship it, and Frank picked it up and sent it. Beyond cool. Oh - I guess I better thank Greg too - but not 'til I see more pictures!
  11. I think if I had to have a spider web guitar, I'd take something I already have, put some stickers on it, and put $65 back in my pocket.
  12. +2! Hope it was a good one........or 2........or something........
  13. Yep. I love Sam, and it's a great looking guitar, but 'WTF' really says it all.
  14. Many years ago, when my LP was in the shop, they loaned me a goldtop. I lent it to a buddy while doing some work on his guitar, and he had it slip off the strap. Snapped the headstock. Oooops! Now what?!? Nowadays, I can think of one person I'd loan a guitar to. And he would never ask.
  15. I've used the a bunch of amp/speaker/pedal combinations. I've used C30s, Tech21s, a JSX head with different cabs, etc etc etc....... At the moment, it's a Boss GT-3 into a PowerBlock and 2x12 Mojotone cab. I've used the GT-3 long enough (8 yrs?) to have it pretty well dialed in and, as long as you have clean power, your amp is less of a factor (we're talking 'live' in a cover band here). The trick is to put a tube amp model at the end of the chain. I didn't believe it either until I tried it. After torching a C30, I went to solid state amps and no listener has complained. The JSX sounded great, but was a TANK!! 54 lbs of Peavey goodness. I grunted it around - in an amp case - for about a year and finally said the hell with that! And my old Fenders don't leave the house anymore. Speakers have a much greater effect. I have a single 12 cab if I want to go really light, but the Mojotone is about the size and weight of a 4x10, has decent 'whoomp' to it, and is tall enough that you're not standing on your head to make adjustments. This one - loaded w/ Vintage 30s - is a keeper. Bang-for-the-buck has got to be the Tech21 stuff. Super light-weight and sounds great. I still use a Power Engine at practice. 60W of clean, clear, EQable power - perfect for modelers like the Boss. Guitar->modeler->PE60 - it doesn't get much more portable, reliable, light-weight, and versatile than that!
  16. Boston was playing as I read that, which really drove it home. A truly amazing man. He will be missed.
  17. Looks interesting. And it really works? I'm having a bout of tendonitis in both elbows lately - it sucks - and I wonder if that would help or make it worse......
  18. Very cool! Congrats!
  19. He's only like the oldest 'under 28 years old' winner of the show!! Holy crap! You better get a video of that in case he has a heart attack or something.
  20. HELL NO!! Unless you wanna be scared off! He's like the Steve Vai of banjo. He's 'holy $hit' good.
  21. I suggest a teacher. My over-60 brother-in-law recently picked up the banjo (no previous musical ability) and can actually play some stuff (he has a very good teacher). Although I don't think he liked it when I picked it up and in about 2 minutes was playing 'Dueling Banjos'. I got my wife a garage-sale banjo once for our anniversary (actually - it was a joke, it just happened to be our anniversary the day I was garage-sale-ing). She's never let me forget it. No sense of humor!!
