The cost of that modification has me wondering why the person who owned it could not simply trade for another Monaco.

Yeah, it doesn't make much sense. Kind of like a buddy that had a hot rodded 1959 panhead... He then went super crazy on the motor, 103" (which is HUGE on a pan), and started talking frame mods. I tried to get him to sell me the frame and buy an aftermarket, but he was bent on using the original frame. One mod led to another, and a year later the only thing left of the original was the seat post tube with the rear motor mount. All I could do was to shake my head. Tsk tsk.

"Butchered" doesn't send buyers reaching for their credit cards.

That's F'd up.  Why not just load two Mother-Buckers in it and put a Wunderbar on?  Geez...

And a FatHead too.

It probably says something when Peavey 'recycled' the idea for the FatHead and started calling it the 'PowerPlate'.  What's ancient history is now new again:

The highly elusive device that increases sustain 31% on average or some shit...

I only need sustain up to the point of changing chords or playing the next note.  Stupid...

We've had a lot of nonsense sold to us over the years; brass nuts "for sustain", Buzz Feiten "for intonation", ...
Not to mention all of the vintage P-90 guitars that have been routed for humbuckers because "you can't have all of that hum." ...and the Kahlers and Floyds...

Meanwhile Leslie West played a wrap tail with P-90s cranked up to 11 and never gave a flying shit.

Jimi (and later Eddie - before the Floyd days) dive-bombed their narrow asses off and somehow found a way to get back in tune and keep playing.
