BadgerDave Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 My guess is that your initial reaction is going to be either "hot damn!" or "WTF?" Waddaya think?
cmatthes Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Personally, not my cup of tea finishwise, but I don't hate it. I played a few of the prototypes last September in Stevensville, and they were unbelievably good guitars. Al also made them sound amazing... If I were in the market for a new PRS, I'd still stick with the Grissom model. Apart from that one, the 22/12 is the only other one I'd look into buying at this point. I've had the same great PRS for @ 20 years - that'll be a tough act to follow.
DavidE Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 My bassist is a manager at our Guitar Center. He told me they called that one the "PRIDE Reed Smith." I actually like it. So did somebody else because it sold. I didn't play it.
atquinn Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 My guess is that your initial reaction is going to be either "hot damn!" or "WTF?" Waddaya think? I like the concept but 1) I think it looks better with a flame top 2) I'd never go with that color scheme, but it would be cool if you could do a custom blend of colors you picked out like a sunset fade or something -Austin
veatch Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 My vote is "WTF?"I think if the transitions were more smooth, it would be more interesting. The yellow to orange to red looks decent, but from there it is too abrupt.Just MFO, though...
BCR Greg Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 My bassist is a manager at our Guitar Center. He told me they called that one the "PRIDE Reed Smith." HA!
Sam Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Waddaya think? I'm surprised that they green lit that finish, as there seems to be shift away from the translucent purples, greens etc. Is Al trying to tell us something ? I like my PRSs to be subtle (subdued colours and moons when possible.)
santellavision Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 I don't like it at all. As my favorite line from Amadeus goes... "Too many notes".
Sam Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 2) I'd never go with that color scheme, but it would be cool if you could do a custom blend of colors you picked out like a sunset fade or something. Be careful what you wish for.
zorrow Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 The design idea is interesting, but it's not for me. BTW, in this picture it looks way better:
Disturber Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Al Di Meola played on of those reggae influenced painted beasts here in Sweden the other day. Makes me think of something made for Carlos Santana = I hate it.
Mindseyes Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 It looks like a clown puked on it, and clown puke is my least favorite guitar finish.
steelhorse Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 I like subtle or at least more subtle. The prism is too easily identified as the Al Dimeola stick as well. You may enjoy that kind of pressure
atquinn Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 2) I'd never go with that color scheme, but it would be cool if you could do a custom blend of colors you picked out like a sunset fade or something. backinit Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Funny that you introduced this thread as that is one of the models that I have been looking at trying to "get it" but I just can't. I think it's a market share move of sorts.
Sam Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 I think that looks cool! I mean, I wouldn't pay more for a finish like that, but I like it. Sure about that?
bobbymack Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 I'm generally into subtler tops, but I actually like it. I bet if Hamer would have done it it would be getting raves here...
BubbaVO Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Not my thing. But if you're playing a gig under the big top, go for it. : )
