Feynman Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 I hope this is all good news somehow. I'm hoping it's something Jol and the gang want.More information would be nice.In any case, Jol and every artist at Hamer, if you are reading this, I wish the best for all of you.
Devnor Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 John Suhr was a ex-fender employee too. Probably getting out from under Fender management is the best thing for any luthier. I wish the best for Jol & crew.

Sentinel Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Well Fender has let Jol go. No word if it is temporary or permanent. and I have no other details...Who said that? Any source?
esquared Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Maybe we should get all the HFCers to kick in a few bucks, partner with Jol and start a new custom shop and call them Jolers?
atquinn Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 ...They should just sell him the brand back....I would think that if Hamer's business model supported that, they wouldn't have been owned by Kaman and then sold to Fender in the first place. Maybe the conversation went like this...FMIC: The 80's are coming back in a big way, it's time to re-issue some bolt-neck shredders with boomers!JOL: Over my dead body!FMIC: Security will be coming to escort you out in 20 minutes....although maybe not. Anyway, I hope everyone on the Hamer end lands on their feet even if the brand itself ends up vanishing into the ether.-Austin

harry65 Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 FUCK FENDER!!!!!!!!!!!! FARGIN BASTAGES!!!!!!!!!!!!! i hope jol starts over with a great handmade guitar company only maybe with a little less bling and some palatable pricing.......................
Devnor Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 There you go...Jol Danzig is actually Alton Brown.
BCR Greg Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Can we please stop with the anti-Fender vitriol? They, as owners of Hamer, allow this site to use the Hamer trademarks and images. If they see a lot of this sort of immature ranting, they would be within their rights to shut this place down.Until the FACTS are known, let's sit back and see how things play out. Punch your own walls, not the community's wall.

DavidE Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 I think that now labeling a Hamer as "pre Fender" is fair game. ;-)Is Frank Untemeyer still there?I just hope they don't put that Ken guy in charge.

Punch your own walls, not the community's wall.I tend to agree with Greg here. We don't know if there's any reason to be anti Fender because we don't know any of the facts behind the split. It may have been perfectly amicable. Maybe it wasn't. Maybe Jol has other plans and this will ultimately be good for him. I guess I don't see the reason for the knee jerk reaction.
Thundernotes Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Nobody seems to know exactly why he left, so the speculation and FMIC-bashing is really premature.
zenmindbeginner Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 I'm surprised that Bill Kaman kept him on as long as he did. Oh well, you can't expect to stay on when you sell the company, he's lucky that he lasted as long as he did.
marcus2 Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 I wonder if this will spur a "pre-Fender/Jol split era Hamer" demand.Best wishes to everyone, especially the craftsmen (& women) who have made these guitars we all cherish.Marc
