zenmindbeginner Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Wow... there are a zillion Van Halen "On Fire" videos out there... most of them suck or are lo fi, many of them are just the actual song without anyone playing to it. There are a few good ones and I consider my video to have: superior sound quality, a pretty close tone, fairly accurate playing, playing to a backing track without the guitar (Guitar Hero rips), no string sounds etc.In other words, my Van Halen fanboy vid was one of the better ones out there... I mean, I didn't tackle a difficult Van Halen song, but there was merit in my efforts. Some arsehole flagged my video and now Warner Music Group has gotten youtube to remove the video. All of these other dudes get to put out their videos playing to backing tracks without a single sideways glance from Warner Music Group, yet they single me out.F**k you whoever flagged my video... I hope that you rot in hell. I hope that you someday receive a Manny Horowitz style hair parting.Gut zol oyf im onshikn fin di tsen makes di beste.
cspot Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 You got singled out for your abiltiy to nail that tune and sound! Who knows, maybe Eddie himself was pissed! Regardless it made me practice more and for that I thank you. Rock on, Colin (aka cspot)
coolfeel Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 I am more offended by the Yiddish...How dare you...
cspot Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 ok, I agree, remove the picture of Jebus please!
atquinn Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 The Yiddish can stay, but the picture goes. -Austin
zenmindbeginner Posted December 1, 2011 Author Posted December 1, 2011 It didn't even occur to me about the picture...The censorship is a little heavy handed but you guys know best right?I'm sure that there is something in the TOS that talks about offensive imagery, but I just honestly didn't find it offensive.I will absolutely never post another image of a religious icon flipping the birdI will absolutely never post another image of a religious icon flipping the birdI will absolutely never post another image of a religious icon flipping the birdI will absolutely never post another image of a religious icon flipping the birdI will absolutely never post another image of a religious icon flipping the birdI will absolutely never post another image of a religious icon flipping the birdI will absolutely never post another image of a religious icon flipping the birdI will absolutely never post another image of a religious icon flipping the birdI will absolutely never post another image of a religious icon flipping the birdI will absolutely never post another image of a religious icon flipping the birdI will absolutely never post another image of a religious icon flipping the birdI will absolutely never post another image of a religious icon flipping the birdI will absolutely never post another image of a religious icon flipping the birdI will absolutely never post another image of a religious icon flipping the birdI will absolutely never post another image of a religious icon flipping the birdI will absolutely never post another image of a religious icon flipping the bird

cmatthes Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 We have a strict policy here about no religion and no politics. What may be viewed by many as a harmless comic pic is somebody else's cartoon Mohammed. No worries - we're all good, but we can't allow anything that will either promote or provoke. We have similarly removed pics of Hillary Clinton, President Obama and GW. It just isn't in the community spirit here. Now - that YouTube censorship is some REAL bull$#!+ .
Bobby Marshall Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Probably outing myself but have you ever seen any Prince covers? Not for very long you haven't. He's got people watching YouTube and gets stuff pulled pretty quick. Or at least he did when I was searching around a few years back. If you weren't hocking anything, I don't see why they would care as what revenue would you really be diverting from them. Maybe if VH put out a new album and toured a little bit, the little stuff like a youtube vid would not be so worrisome. I guess that's what happens when you sell out. I didn't realize I thought that until now.
gorch Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 It looks like you have too much of a skill for somebody to be able cope with. Look at me. I permanently reach my quota of positive votes. Positiveness can be darn frustrating, I tell you.
Crwth145 Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Haters gonna hate... You might try re-loading it, adding a "Fair Use" disclaimer: Disclaimer: -- Backing track in this video is under "Fair Use": Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act in 1976; Allowance is made for "Fair Use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. atquinn Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 I would imagine it was Eddie sitting around in his underwear surfing the web that reported it himself. I mean, it doesn't seem like he's busy doing much nowadays - Austin
LadyScary Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 why play covers.you should be playing your own originals.

BlueRedWhite Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Hey, have you try to upload your video and not make it public? That way we can see it. I once put up a video on youtube, i make sure it was not published, and only some of my friends could see it. i know is shitty, but jalousy is a beach.... (spelling error on purpose)
veatch Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 You can always post it without "vh", "van halen", the song title, etc. in the title or description. That would very likely go undetected, unless Ed's team of lawyers have a *lot* of time on their hands....But then again, that's kind of beside the point...
Brooks Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 why play covers.you should be playing your own originals.zen has original tunes posted, too.not that there's anything wrong w/ covers, it's all music.

sixesandsevens Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 Today I learned that "suck on it" is a Yiddish thing. Who knew? That sucks about the video.
zenmindbeginner Posted December 15, 2011 Author Posted December 15, 2011 Thanx for the kind words y'all, that took a lotta the sting out of the situation. I should say that I have been devoting the last year or so to learning and trying to cop as much EVH as I possibly can. Now, I am no virtuoso so I have been starting out by tackling his easier stuff more or less. I'm kind of taking this time to play like one of my heroes. It took me about three years to get back what I lost by taking 1997-2007 off playing guitar... now I can pick up where I left off. I stopped playing leads in 1995 because I was concentrating on developing my own sound and didn't think that I could offer up anything leadwise that hadn't been done, so I went to the woodshed and developed my own rhythm playing style based on a dropped B tuning and blackface Fender amps. Well, I can't play my Fenders 'cause my neighborhood is too tight and so I have been working on my weaknesses which are all in my lead playing, my rhythm playing is where I want it but my lead playing has MILES to go. I don't naturally fall into the shredder category (I don't know much theory) so my strengths are more in a bluesy vibe with an emphasis on picking attack... I was a somewhat natural candidate for EVH style playing. So, I took the leap and started to try and learn his stuff note for note and to try and cop his tone as much as possible through digital modeling. I was all set, I would do a song every few months and over a couple of years I should have all of my favorites knocked down... I downloaded the guitar-less backing tracks (ripped from Guitar Hero), got my guitar used to Eddie's weird tuning and proceeded to learn. I wanted to have amazing spot on versions of EVH on my youtube channel. I had just about put the solo for "Beat It" and "Panama" in the bag and then noticed that my 1st effort was deleted. It totally put a cramp on my whole agenda for the next year or so. Well, I guess I will have to upload just my guitar playing without the backing track. I did a tone test for the "Beat It" solo and "Panama" and decided that the preliminary recordings were plenty good, so I guess I'll upload them sometime soon and let y'all know when I do. You guys are the greatest!
Brooks Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 idea; put the original backings on one track, your solo on another. then record a 3rd track of just acoustic guitar playing chords that mimic the rhythm section. mixdown w/o the original backings. might be cool.
