murkat Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 Brought to me by Steve, for Jef, for me to do it up and deliver to him at the Chicago gathering. The Chap was pretty rough. Very old strings highly gunked up board pitted and case printed finish. floyd nut was low,... duct tape on the Hi E side. then masking tape on the plastic shim. and a cardboard shim for the neck. All electronics, etc. work. So a total tear down, less cpa (but dropped the 5 way switch). frets leveled playwear and polishes, board polished. New shim of ebony at the correct height for the floyd nut. 4 stage buff out and polish body and neck. She cleaned up pretty damm good. And plays like new again. even thou it has a middle pickup... I call dibs!

veatch Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 Pure rawk. Had a hard time to stop laughing about the duct tape and cardboard shims. Thanks, Mr. Jay. Now i have 2 reasons for "can't wait until the HFC jam!"
HAMERMAN Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 Always great to see an awesome guitar restored to it's former glory!
hectorp Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 Young Murkat: You have us all dreaming of projects to send you...
Hamer Dave Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 Amazing, what a good cleaning can do for an inappropriately maintained guitar. Most old ones seem to be in need of it!Sweet! I'd like it.
diablo175 Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 Exceptional work, artfully done! +1 That's PURDY. And I hate guits w/ middle p'ups.
yngwie308 Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Wow a full signature, my Chap Custom has his initials and the date. This is a bolt on neck right?yngwie308
cmatthes Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Wow - I've never seen an O'Connor with the initials only! Got a shot of that?I've owned 3-4 of them and seen dozens more, and they've all had the full name.
yngwie308 Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 Chris I realized after my post that only Jim's first name was initialed, it reads on the back above and to the right of the trem cover J.O'Connor '87 I was remarking that seeing Jim's full signature was unusual. yngwie308
