ptm1diver Posted January 12, 2014 Author Posted January 12, 2014 To cmatthes, HamStd, Kizanski, DGStandard, DJango49, MCChris, and anyone I forgot to mention. I meant no disrespect to anyone of you. I appreciate all the info and advice. I have purchased from a few here and have made a few friends. I have wanted a standard for a while and I do like Korina. In the grand scheme of things, I know very little.I would like to acquire that guitar, and was wondering if you have any advice for such transactions where the seller and buyer are so distant. I just bought the Korina Artist here from a fellow HFCer and hope to see it soon. Just like shotguns, you can never have too many guitars. Thanks again for all your help and advice.Paul
BTMN Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Long distance deals I always try to have a phone conversation or three. You have his number, spent a few minutes and talk about a few thing including the guitar. $1800 for a Korina/Limba guitar of Hamer quality is well worth that. Think about how much a Korina Gibber Explorer would cost you AND how much better, IMNSHO the Hamer would be.
mirrorimij Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 As others have said, that one is 100% USA Korina Standard. Every detail is correct. The fact that it lasted longer than 5 minutes on the open market shows how little demand there is for a kick ass USA built rock machine at a fair price.I've got one. If I didn't it would be on its way to Connecticut. No affiliation to this sale.
MCChris Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 I would like to acquire that guitar, and was wondering if you have any advice for such transactions where the seller and buyer are so distant.Use a credit card to a confirmed address thru Paypal. If he agrees to it, my guess is he'll want you to pay the fee (the guitar is on CL, so that could mean he prefers cash and carry). Don't do the gift option or you lose all protection.
ptm1diver Posted January 12, 2014 Author Posted January 12, 2014 MCChris,Thanks for the advice. What do you mean by "to a confirmed address thru Paypal?I called him, but no response. It maybe gone already. Thanks again and be well.Paul
BTMN Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 A confirmed email address by paypal I think is what he means from the seller. Meaning that he has used paypal.
FrankieIII Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Here are detailed pics for your reference of what you should look for on one of these to confirm originality:http://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/topic/53610-fs-1995-korina-standard-036/?hl=frankieiii
serial Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Well considering that one of the guys who actually worked on these guitars has already weighed in, I'm a bit puzzled as to what more evidence anyone needs to demonstrate that his is correct. This isn't TGP or MLP, etc. where people don't know enough about guitars to know whether they're legit or not.
humfree Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 It's mine..Been sort of fun to watch all of the conjecture.. pretty innocent reasons for all of the mysteries..Really wanted to sell it locally,, still do.. we all do, right? But alas, I live in a land that has been carpet bombed by Guitar Center and PRS.. could be anything really, but this area really isn't that hot for Hamers.. at least the ones I own. Has anyone seen one cheaper? I posted this in early December at $1900 and not one person has come over to play it - obviously.I took many, many photos of the headstock and I posted the best one. The gentleman that inquired wanting better photos did not mention he was out of state. Not wanting to take the guitar out for another 20 photos that probably wouldn't turn out for someone who could simply drive across town on my word, seemed pretty reasonable. To a bunch of crack addicts, it must have seemed odd.. hehehe.. The trouble I have now is that I am getting all of these phone calls from all over the country. While I'm not at all happy about having my number and location posted for the world, at least I know most of you have no ill will toward me. It would be nice to have my location taken down if the mods would be kind. Hopefully this answers the odd nature of my post..But here we are, still a little ahead of ourselves. My original post wasn't designed for the amount of detail needed for a mail order deal - when I'm ready to go cross country, you guys will have more info than you could wish for. The guitar is unreal..Peace
ptm1diver Posted January 13, 2014 Author Posted January 13, 2014 Serial,It was not the authenticity at this point, but a desire to see what the headstock looked like. Maybe the dog chewed the crap out of it, or....... But, no worries, the seller has not responded to my phone message or text. So I'm assuming its sold or he/she wants to sell it locally or is reluctant to ship. No matter, I'm out of the game now. But, I appreciate the help and info from the other members.

ptm1diver Posted January 13, 2014 Author Posted January 13, 2014 Well at least I now know. It would have been nice if the add said local sale only. Then there would have been no question.
hamerhead Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 I never think of that when selling on CL. If I post it here or Ebay, shipping is a foregone conclusion (did anyone else hear Dan Deerdork just then?). But if I put it on the local craigslist, I'm typically thinking local sale.Great guitar. Nice score for whoever gets it.
devrock Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Jesus. I'm not much of a fan of Standards, but that price seems stupid low to me. How has someone not jumped on a plane and grabbed it?
FrankieIII Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Does anyone know the whereabouts of matching # 46 korina Vector for sale for around the same price? I owned one Vector and three Standards from the run of these for literally about ten years in hopes to find a # match and came close a few times but no cigar, so I sold all of them
BTMN Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Rare to get both but I know a few that have tried. I would like to find #58 or #28 of both and a way to get them. I know where #58 Standard is/was but not the Vector.
ARM OF HAMER Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 "This isn't TGP or MLP, etc. where people don't know enough about guitars to know whether they're legit or not"........................ How true........................ people on this forum actually know their information VERY well................dealing with facts not conjecture.
humfree Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Well at least I now know. It would have been nice if the add said local sale only. Then there would have been no question. So, now I should have put 'Local Sale Only' on the ad so this entire mystery you created could be avoided? I am actually from the land where Craig's was born.. it was originally a trading post with an emphasis on providing deals to community members.. it was never intended to be a substitute for EBay. I have had a good half dozen people message me sympathetically as though I am being dragged through the mud here. So, let's straiten this out once and for all and everyone can make their own decision. Here's the original email I received from you: Good Morning, Can you send a photo of the front of the headstock and also where the serial number is located? Thanks There was no name, no phone number, no information whatsoever that would lead to me believe that this person is even serious, eh? Now, how many people here on the HFC would have even responded to the message above? Looks almost like a bot, eh? But wait.. please take into account that I have received 15 emails about this guitar - all who were serious provided a name, phone number, location, and if they were out of state, asked nicely whether or not I would be willing to ship. Still, i responded nicely to the email above with this response: Greetings, Sounds like you are skeptical of the American origin of my Standard.. can't blame you there.. Hamer did a fine job confusing everyone about their guitars. The thing is, I took maybe forty pictures of that guitar including several of the headstock and serial number.. none turned out.. need a better camera.. Serial is 543165.. directly under the 165 is the number 046. I'm not going to try to capture it on film, if you don't mind.. If your only hesitation is uncertainty whether or not it is American, rest assured, it is 100% USA.. I am the original owner. Hope this satisfies your needs. (I provided my location here with a landmark so that a local would know about where I lived. This was dutifully copied and pasted on this public forum along with my name and phone number) Peace, Then, I got a phone call from this person from back east which I did not return. Remember, he never even gave me his name in the original email. As far as I'm concerned, I have no responsibility to shepherd him any further. Then he sent me his second email asking if I would ship. He did not accept my explanation.. it is still unreasonable for him that I couldn't find the time to take a photo of a guitar that was never available to him due to his geography. Now, I have this in my inbox: I'm not sure if you received my post, so I'll resend it. First, I was not, and did not feel obligated to post your phone number. That part of the post was in error. Its not unusual for members to post PSAs and info about guitars for sale. I enlisted the opinion of the other members, like I have for other purchases, because I was interested in acquiring your guitar and it seemed strange that there was no visible serial number and no picture of the front of the headstock. When it eas brought to my attention, I removed your name and phone number, then the additional information. I have a question for you, why play games on Craigslist and not post the guitar here where it would get better exposure by Hamer fans that would be serious about purchasing it. I have purchased an Artist Korina, Studio, Datona, and Diablo here and made some friends in the process. If you don't wish to reply, thats ok. I treat everyone fairly. If you did not want to reply to my phone inquiry, then why send me a phone number. Best to you. I redacted the name to protect his privacy. How does one even respond? Y'know, I gave him shit about posting my name, location and phone number and I accepted his answer.. I'm not angry.. everyone makes mistakes.. but it's as though he hasn't read any of my responses. Why doesn't he have enough respect for my position to let me sell my own guitars in the manner I choose? What is so difficult to understand about 'I'd rather sell it locally?" Why is this a game to him? I think I was pretty damn clear about my reasoning behind my dealings with him.. If you want an apology for not returning your call, I just can't. As far as I'm concerned, you didn't represent yourself honestly in your initial email.. As to why I wouldn't post it here.. I will when I'm good and ready to ship it. I could sell it a dozen times on this site without any effort, BUT I WANTED TO SELL IT LOCALLY! May I have your permission? Or, maybe I should get permission from the entire board. I threw a couple of smiley faces as an afterthought.. I'm really not pissed, just frustrated.. I can't do anything without sarcasm, so just imagine I wrote this with whimsey in my heart, wind beneath my wings, and love for all humanity.. because believe it or not, that's how it was intended No one should feel bad.. it's all about Korina
LordOfTheThighs Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Just because this thread was originally a PSA.
RobB Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 I live 20 mins away from you. If I hadn't just purchased a bitchen ESP Explorer this debate wouldn't be happening.
sixesandsevens Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 I live 20 mins away from you. If I hadn't just purchased a bitchen ESP Explorer this debate wouldn't be happening. Some day, and that day may never come, I will call upon you to do a service for the HFC (sic)...Buying this guitar is that service RobB. Do it for the children.
bmenary Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Great guitars- Flynn music in Evanston had a couple of these- I always liked them a lot- Probably my most favorite standard for a modern one-
ptm1diver Posted January 15, 2014 Author Posted January 15, 2014 Humfree, I have to thank you for being such thoughtful person I recently noticed an add for a Hamer USA T-51F Telecaster-style Guitar. In addition to the description the add contained the following language."Seeking in-person transaction No shipping." We know immediately from the add the seller wants to sell locally and will not ship, therefore, it would not be prudent to contact him/her for additional info if shipping was involved. You gave me a phone number to call and I responded via phone because I seriously wanted to buy the guitar. Then, you blew me off without the courtesy of a phone call. As a fellow HFC member, you could have been decent about it. Whether I lived 15 miles from you, or 3,000, I would still have wanted to see a picture of the front of the headstock, that was not an unreasonable request. Life is to short to get your panties in a bunch.
