IMHO the Standard is to Hamer, what the Les Paul is to Gibson. The Standard will set the mark but where and when that mark will be set is up to market. I don't think that the frenzy has happened yet, and it just might not ever happen. They are wonderful guitars and if you have a chance to buy one you should.

Well, looks like we've got a $5,000 price drop in less than 24 hours.

I keep offering $tree fiddy. Rejected. So I upped my bid to $tree fiddy one. No dice.

Awe come on man. This is a bonafide cash offer. I don't need to get approval from my wife or mommy (or husband) or trust fund manager. Cash deal if I can come pick it up. Oooo, That's right, you declared no local pick ups. btw, What's up wit dat? Well how bout I pay with an IOU. I'm good for it. Trust me. I'll even send it certified mail.

OK,OK i'll cave in...... $tree SVTEE one?! That's like almost 10% over my opening offer.

Awe come on man.

Cheers!

btw - Stock up on TUMS. I just returned from the grocery store. J-J-J-J-jammed. Completely out of TUMS or Pepto-Abysmal. What do you take for indigestion if you don't have either of those? Metamucil? Fabric Softener? Oh yeah! The Bears are playing on Thanksgiving Day. THAT will make the Bears fans bowels move.

No local shipping?

There might be some paranoia about someone asking for a PayPal refund if there is no confirmed shipping receipt. However, meeting someone in a bank lobby and handing off money in cash or a certified check from the bank itself ought to be sufficient.

i had an offer from a pawn shop. Bring your gear here and have the guy try it out here. You'll be safe, the buyer won't be coming into your home looking around and your buyer may look around our shop and buy something from us too. Win-Win

Some police stations don't mind too much. Mine doesn't. They put you out back and let your buyer try it out for a few minutes. Bring your own extension cord. They'd rather have you there in the station than investigating an armed robbery in a Wendy's parking lot. They don't seem to mind so much if its behind a Dunkin Donuts.

Cheers!

$10k was a steal for that one-flaky seller or not.

$8,000

Interesting, not sure if it was just the flaky seller or not. Whomever bought it I hope they enjoy it.

4 digit standards are a rare breed even more rarer when you compare them to the mass produced brand X product out there.

Congrats to the new owner.

Best wishes,

Big Dibs.

I emailed and offered to BIN at $10,000, couldn't bid via ebay as I'm not in the U.S. but said I have an address in the U.S it could have been sent to, he didn't get back to me so if it went for $8,000 he sold it for $2000 under its actual value.

If you want to sell a guitar for it's maximum value why impose such severe limitations on your potential market.

Not sure if I want to applaud him for sticking to his principles or cry.

Congrats to the new owner (I really hope this works out for you) and if you want to make a quick profit let me know.......................

That's £6500 of our finest sterling pounds!

Plus shipping and duty/VAT would be £8000 roughly.

Are you sure?

Yes, otherwise I wouldn't have offered it (or post it here) but I would probably have flow over to pick it up so wouldn't pay any duty on it anyway (unless they stopped me walking through customs).

Do you have an early (slotted control cavity) B&C Standard for sale if so let me know it would be a whole lot simpler if I could get one locally.

Surprised you wouldn't think it was worth that, (apart from 0017) when was the last time you saw one for sale ?

Going rate for any 4 digit Standard atm is around $5000 - $6000 depending on condition there cannot be more than a handfull of early unmolested Standards left.

I understand these are wonderful, early pieces of Hamer history.

However, a question... The 1976 Gibson Explorers that were just reintroduced. How would you compare them to the Standard of same era? I will sit down and attach my seatbelt. ;)

Posted

I think that the earliest Standards and the Explorers reissued around that time period are both among the finest classic guitars of that entire decade.

Different, but if I was only able to own one guitar, I wouldn't complain about either one of those options!

Posted

It was an odd auction...#0042 would have brought in a lot more, IMHO, if he/she opened the sale to the globe and stuck to the $25k BIN...my guess is the seller needed the money ASAP. He was effective at selling it but at $8k it was a dump...congratulations to the buyer...great score and hope he/she enjoys the heck out of it!

I wouldn't ship that guitar, personally.

Shipping that guitar (or any of this value) in a OHSC is just asking for trouble given the fragility of the headstocks on Standards.

The seller didn't give buyers any choice in the matter but given a paypal payment and sufficient insurance (I wouldn't rely on the couriers insurance, get it insured properly for risks in transit) the buyer should be sufficiently protected financially.
