Cary Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 If you've got $90K lying aroundhttp://www.ebay.com/itm/Dumble-Overdrive-Special-1987-Dumblelator-Flight-Cases-vintage-tube-amp/121628277069?_trksid=p2045573.c100034.m2102&_trkparms=aid%3D555012%26algo%3DPW.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D20131003150253%26meid%3D20702f5fc22a4ce69f01fe6754f9212a%26pid%3D100034%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D8%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D191571673999
Studio Custom Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Howard voiced each to the customers needs so there is a lot variation. I've played four Dumbles, including the one Santana eventually purchased. That one was great, another was almost as great, the other two I'd regret owning at $1,500. No one steps up and admits to owning one of the dogs, which in my limited experience is half.
hamer_sunburst Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 seriously... I'd never spend 90K on a freaking appliance...
BadgerDave Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Timbuck 3Widely acknowledged for their impeccable guitar tone.
hamerhead Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 With the Madison connection I thought you'd be all over that, Dave.
Jib Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 $90k wire transfer... I'll be right on it with that kind of buyer security backing up the transaction!
tomteriffic Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 OK, maybe I haven't been to ALL of the rodeos...Whatthehell is a Dumbleator? Extracts the last possible bit of cash out of the amp or???
santellavision Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 It's an EFX loop buffering box. You run the amp loop out into the Dumbleator, then run your EFX in/out of that. The out on the amp in just a Pre out/Power amp in. Most EFX don't like that, they want to see a buffered loop. It's like on a Dr Z Maz amp, most guys run a Fuches Plush Tube-FX Loop box, makes the loop match EFX better. Same thing.
ARM OF HAMER Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 I posted about that one on another thread.......................if your looking for a original Ken Fisher "TRAINWRECK" amp your also talking huge $$$.
rugby1970 Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 I saw this amp this week in Nashville. $185,000.00? C'mon, man!!!!http://www.cartervintage.com/amps/dumbleODR-h.jpg
ARM OF HAMER Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 And you didn't buy it? Seriously with something like this like the old saying goes if you have to ask you can't afford it. There are people that can and will buy...........hard to believe. its not just the sum of the components its also WHO put them together and how................still its hard to believe ANY amp could be worth this kind of coin. Rick Vito has some serious vintage amps and rare guitars.
FGJ Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Does ANYONE seriously believe that any amp is worth that much? Anyone?
cspot Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 I think it gets to a point where its no longer about sound, but more about status symbols. Now....where's my peavey backstage???
santellavision Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 I kinda' feel like a snob because I have a Klon. haha
crunchee Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 NOBODY in their right mind should be buying ANYTHING for 90G on FeePay.
BadgerDave Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Does ANYONE seriously believe that any amp is worth that much? Anyone? It only takes two or three. With names like Bonamassa, Mayer and Urban.
Cary Posted May 5, 2015 Author Posted May 5, 2015 It seems to me I read a while back that to get one built you have to put up $10,000 down and wait years... As part of the contract, if you called to inquire about the progress, he'd keep the deposit and not build the amp. Sounds like the last asshole I'd want to give money to - I don't care how good the amp supposedly sounds. "NO AMP FOR YOU!!!!!"
The Shark Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 I can tell you that there are numerous boutique builders that are nailing the "D" tone. And it is a fantastic tone that I love. Some folks, not so much. I have a low powered "Non-HRM" model and a "Bluesmaster" model that Moss Hudson from BrownNote built me. They are fantastic. Great cleans, crunch and that highly elusive "chirp". It's a tone some care little about. Howard's designs are fantastic. He is a genius. But the cat is out of the bag. You can get the "D" tone for two or three grand. And, in my humble opinion, they are worth every dollar. The "corksniffery" has, for some, tarnished the incredible usefulness of these amps. I love them.
The Shark Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Rob hears ya. Rob don't care...Dave don't care about what Rob cares about...
crunchee Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 That reminds me, the Dumble for sale topic has raised it's head before (but not for this particular individual amp, AFAIK)... http://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/topic/57827-anybody-want-a-dumble-overdrive-special/?hl=dumble
The Shark Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 That reminds me, the Dumble for sale topic has raised it's head before (but not for this particular individual amp, AFAIK)... http://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/topic/57827-anybody-want-a-dumble-overdrive-special/?hl=dumble It draws lines. Even a Ethos can cause trouble...
