Beauty!  I have no idea what those cost in 1987, but the handy dandy online inflation calculator puts the asking price of $2,495 at $1,165.62 in 1987 dollars.

I emailed the seller and told him I have many of these and I thought his price was optimistic, here is his reply:

Hi Joe!!

That's almost interesting!!
If you don't think it's worth what I'm asking, don't buy it...seriously.

Actually, I had thought about buying the guitar myself, and I would have offered my friend about $1500 for it, but I have 80 guitars, all high end USA custom shop instruments, and the Hamer Steve Stevens 2 would have lowered the IQ of the rest of my collection, so I am helping her sell it.

You probably didn't bother to read my listing, because this guitar is a brand new 30 year old guitar. No scratches, dents, dings, fret wear, nothing wrong with it.
I've tried to find one like this one for sale, and all I've found are beat up SS models with dot inlays, and all overpriced, so I am flying the flag at this price for a while and I'll incrementally lower the price as time goes by.
Obviously this is a buyers market, but someone out there is looking for this guitar, so we're going to be patient. I can't even find info on how many of these guitars were made, but it doesn't seem to be too many. After all, Steve Stevens wasn't anywhere near as talented as Randy, Eddie, George, Steve Via or Joe satriani, so his signature model wouldn't garner near the respect accorded to the aforementioned guitar heroes.
It sounds like you have the market cornered on these, though. Good for you.
I prefer the shape of the SS2 over the SS1. (Better proportioned)

My friend is not going to give this guitar away. I'll probably end up listing it on Reverb if it doesn't sell locally.
Thanks for your input at any rate, and have a nice day. Dave

He sounds like he's "almost" an asshole.  But I almost wouldn't say that.

Steve Stevens is a monster guitarist, one of the best out there and I would rate him as a equal to any of those guitar players he mentions. Talent and fame do not always go hand in hand. I mentioned Tommy Emmanuel in a music store I was in the other day and nobody knew who that was.I think the guitar he is selling IS beautiful and there is definately a buyer out there for it although not necessarily at the current asking price.I wish him luck, if he can get it thats good for him.

I disagree.
He made a lot of valid points and his opinion about where SS ranks among guitar greats is his opinion, and no more valid than anyone else's.

Then there's, "If you don't think it's worth what I'm asking, don't buy it...seriously." I couldn't agree with this statement more.

Apparently interesting enough to garner such a long winded reply.

It was a doozy, I'll give you that.
You emailed the guy to tell him that his price was optimistic. He felt the need to expound on why he disagreed.
I have to hand it to him. He managed to say GFY in the nicest way possible.
It's a gift.

This is what made me almost think almost and asshole.

If anything, I would consider Steve Steven's an IQ guitarist.

But then again.  Opinions of assholes are like assholes.  Everybody's got one.

You don't see the hypocrisy in insulting Steve but expecting top dollar simultaneously?

Probably my favorite part!

I do, actually.
It's like when someone tries to tell you that that thing that you're selling isn't as valuable or desirable as you think it is, yet they contacted you because they wanted to buy it.

Wow, are we sure this is really Dave? Sounds like Norman Bates wrote the reply.

"I have to hand it to him. He managed to say GFY in the nicest way possible. It's a gift." - Kiz

Some memorable shit here.  I know I'm going to borrow it.

I thought the guy's reply was pretty funny. I don't blame him for asking top dollar. We all know how it is with guitars: the right buyer, either flush with cash or booze, sees the right guitar and suddenly we all are wondering if we can sell our '93 P90 Specials at $1200. Nice guitar for the right buyer.

I think he's a bit of an optimist at that price. But he is in La La land. And folks that live there seem more prone to lavish themselves with over priced examples of about everything they buy. So he's probably correct in thinking that "but someone is out there looking for this guitar". And he is willing to be patient. That's very important in any deal.

GC has had a similar SS in the used guitar department for over 6 months. It started out at the same $2500. but is now down to 1900. And it is only in "fair" condition!

In the current market it seems that the price of a USA Hamer guitar is somewhere between extremely optimistic and just about give away. This week I saw 2 very similar Newports sell, 1 under 900 the other at 17. Big difference between the two. ???

Guitar collections have I.Q.s?  Sounds like that's coming from someone who 'invests' in guitars a little too much.  I wonder how he'll react when the old-guy-retirement-fund-guitar-&-gear market crash hits hard?  <_<

I just tried to give him some background on the model and where prices trend.  Never expected such a reply for my efforts.

You got the bonus plan.

Girl on the Phone

The Jam

Girl on the phone keeps a-ringing back
Her voice is smooth but the tone is flat
She's telling me this and she's telling me that
She talks about me and I must agree

With what she says about me

About how nice I can be

But it makes no difference to my mind

Girl on the phone keeps a-ringing back
She knows all my details - she's got my facts
She tells me my height and she knows my weight
She knows my age and says she's knows my fate

And I must say - its logical
What foresight she must have
I've got to meet her whenever I get time

Says she knows everything about me
Every word I've ever said
Every book I've ever read
She told me that we met along time ago
I can't think when but she used to know

Girl on the phone keeps a-ringing back
Knows where I get my shirts and where I get my pants
Where I get my trousers where I get socks
My leg measurements and the size of my cock

And I must say its un-nerving
To think that she knows me
Knows me so well - better than anyone
Better than myself

Says she knows everything about me
Every record I've listened to
Every window that I've looked through
She told me that we met along time ago
I can't think when but she used to know

Girl on the phone keeps a-ringing back
She's telling me this and she's telling me that

If you were a regular customer you could get one like this for around $800.

I got my pristine one in blue pearl ebony board with crowns for, I believe $575

brand new, but they were blowing some Hamers out at that time and I was a well-known

customer.  The dealer said 'I may as well throw in the case because I know you already

have one.'  He'd sold me one in copper finish a few months earlier...
