BruceM Posted April 4, 2020 Posted April 4, 2020 I'm feeling a little lazy to do a bunch of research, so I thought I'd ask my esteemed experts to list their favorite power pop bands. I'm looking to listen to some new stuff, and welcome your ideas and suggestions. I'll start with the obvious bands I can quickly think of off the top of my head: Cheap Trick Shoes Matthew Sweet The Bangles Derrick Anderson Sloan Fountains of Wayne Help, please...

cynic Posted April 4, 2020 Posted April 4, 2020 I’m no help. I’d honestly never heard the term before landing here.
cmatthes Posted April 5, 2020 Posted April 5, 2020 Gigolo Aunts You Am I Teenage Fanclub Superdrag Starbelly Cliff Hillis Greenberry Woods The Rooks P. Hux (Parthenon Huxley) (Just to name a few great ones that haven't been named) Obviously, stuff like The Knack, Romantics, Rubinoos, etc. - lots of classic stuff from the late '70s and early '80s.
The Shark Posted April 5, 2020 Posted April 5, 2020 When I hear "Power Pop", I think of the Raspberries.
Steve Haynie Posted April 5, 2020 Posted April 5, 2020 The Struts Bowling For Soup Slade Bowling For Soup consider themselves pop/punk. Ignore that. They play pop, and they have a Fountains Of Wayne connection.
Jack C Posted April 5, 2020 Posted April 5, 2020 I recently discovered these guys on Spotify. Fantastic power pop:

GuitarGuy65 Posted April 5, 2020 Posted April 5, 2020 I've always considered Marvelous 3 a power pop band too. Butch Walker is one talented dude and "Hey Album!" is an awesome disc:
atomicwash Posted April 5, 2020 Posted April 5, 2020 Nick Lowe Elvis Costello Marshall Crenshaw Material Issue
killerteddybear Posted April 5, 2020 Posted April 5, 2020 The Joe Jackson Band. Not to be confused with JJ's other work. The albums are Look Sharp, I'm The Man, Beat Crazy, and 4.
a.bandini Posted April 5, 2020 Posted April 5, 2020 The Hoodoo Gurus also come to mind. The Shark already mentioned the Raspberries. Go All the Way seems like a perfect Power Pop song - hell, it is a perfect song. Power pop is my favorite genre. Love it.
BruceM Posted April 5, 2020 Author Posted April 5, 2020 I'm not much of a daytime TV watcher, so I end up playing my stereo most of the day when I'm sitting at home alone. Power pop makes me happy. I'm going to add a lot this to my playlist. Thanks again, guys!

cmatthes Posted April 6, 2020 Posted April 6, 2020 The Bram T. song above is a solid Power Pop classic. Some of the others in that vein...if not too obvious: Just a good one from a really great tour: (Paul W. with the late, great Tommy Keene on guitar) Finally, one of my favorite live covers by one of my favorite Power Pop bands...
