woodpile Posted March 1, 2023 Posted March 1, 2023 Thought, instead of our top shelf prized guitars, how about showing off the workhorse beaters. Here's mine, an Esquire Pawn Shop '51 ridiculously modded beyond any sensible reason. Has a stacked SD in the neck, SD '59 in the bridge, sperzel locking tuners and a bogus fender decal and neck plate. Both pickups are splittable, the neck is frickin awesome and from a distance nobody knows what the hell it is. Thing plays and sounds great, weighs nothing. So whatcha got? And, for us deviants.....no hand pictures.
crunchee Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 I've posted photos before (back when I could still post photos from my computer) of my '06 stripped Ash-bodied Fender Mike Dirnt P-Bass here on this forum, I'm trying to find the ancient thread where I might have posted before, photos might still be out there! I still have that bass, and it's still a favorite of mine. Another favorite of mine I bought used on Reverb from about three years ago, was this mutt...MIM Fender '60's 'Road Worn' Jazz Bass nitro-finish body with a satin urethane finish MIM '03 Fender Standard Fretless Jazz Bass neck. Technically it's not a 'beater' as the 'Road Worn' treatment on the body was done on purpose by Fender, but the neck and body were never originally intended to go together. Still, it plays and sounds great! https://reverb.com/item/30784795-fender-road-worn-60s-fretless-jazz-bass My other guitars, on the other hand, aren't what I would call 'beaters', but they do all get used very regularly. I couldn't resist buying this modified half-of-a double-8, made In San Antonio, Alamo 'Futuramic' steel guitar from the '50's a few years back: https://reverb.com/item/18280623-alamo-8-string-lap-steel-natural It looks like somebody table-sawed it in half, but they actually did a very good job as far as to where to make the cut (plus it's a straight, sharp cut with a slight outward slant to that side), plus it works fine...though the switch is now just there for show as it was originally meant to switch the necks on and off. This steel guitar as it is doesn't look horrible IMO though, and plays and sounds really good! The original 'gold' panels and trim bits aren't plated, they're solid brass. The tuners are interesting, as they look like early 'no-line' Klusons; but the 'tinsel' (glitter) tuner buttons are original, not shrunken, and work fine! The body is solid Ash, and it's lots easier to handle and play as a lap steel than I'm sure the double-neck version ever was.
TBP Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 The brown satin paint seems to hide some of the dings in the photo, but this is my 2002 Highway One Strat. My first (and for a long time, only) electric. It has dings from the soft finish, has been fully refretted, and was bought as a "blem" for $400. But it has helped me though a lot of tough times. Being able to play it, unplugged. while being hooked up to an IV for several hours a day during a long hospital stint greatly helped my sanity. Also, perhaps because of the thin finish and all it has been through, but it vibrates when played far more than any other I've owned or tried.
Disturber Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 I was going to post a pic of my wife. But I don't know how to post pics. Help please.
Cboss Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 This was a UV Vodka promotional guitar I bought off Craigslist for 150 bucks, hideously ugly, but I had a vision for it painted it house of kolor kk-06, Lollar DB, 1meg volume only, graphtech nut and saddles, gotoh lockers and...it is amazing.. incredible sustain, sounds absolutely fantastic, switchable from series to parallel, my one non hamer❤

diablo175 Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 These are the closest I have to beaters. Though the body of my Strat has seen some action over 40 some years & has some definite road wear and tear.

Jeff R Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 A relic is a beater by default, correct? Here's the most recent one of mine I declared "not for sale." The fingerboard is lot darker than in this photo from finger smudge already.

Jim85IROC Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 edit: It's not as funny when the OP said not to do it. 😄

Hamer95USA Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 The Fret King Corona GW and Reverend Eastsider T are my current "beater" guitars that I bring to outdoor shows or playing dive bars or places with little/no security. If either of them gets damaged or stolen, I won't worry about them that much as I can find the same guitars online.

It will not be white.
Dave Scepter Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 Well, all my guitars are beaters but this one fits the ticket

mathman Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 Everything I own may qualify. But how about this one. It is getting new Gravelin Pickups installed eventually. It is at the shop, since December but they skipped over it. Said it was next in line when I called.
