bsteff666 Posted February 9, 2024 Posted February 9, 2024 I just got this in my email…. Price Guide from Vintage Guitar Magazine. Discuss…
mrjamiam Posted February 9, 2024 Posted February 9, 2024 1. No mention of the Graphics. 2. Original cover?

I also found it to be unreliable, I have copies from 14 years ago or so, it was helpful for identification, and better than nothing. I think I boiled it down to: "if you are in a 'boutique' store and don't want to feel like you're paying too much, consult the price guide", or something like that.
velorush Posted February 9, 2024 Posted February 9, 2024 Those prices are extremely accurate up to the point you put yours up for sale. Not so accurate after that.

crunchee Posted February 10, 2024 Posted February 10, 2024 They oughta call it "The Highballer's Price Guide", because the prices they give ain't Lowball for sure. Where do they put these guides in bookstores, in the 'Fiction' section?
Steve Haynie Posted February 10, 2024 Posted February 10, 2024 Dealers report prices. They have incentive to push prices up. The prices given are for pristine examples. What is the suggested scale for pricing less than perfect, or used, examples?
BadgerDave Posted February 11, 2024 Posted February 11, 2024 I am familiar with the 1st and 2nd version. Floyd Rose and Reissue versions? WTF?

stonge Posted February 11, 2024 Posted February 11, 2024 I think the reissue versions were made in New Hartford with some NOS Sustainblocks. I think they were available at one of the HFC tours (1997-2003ish?); i thought there were a pair that belonged to Eric(?) In Boston.
Dutchman Posted February 11, 2024 Posted February 11, 2024 Joe B must of discovered them! He can make prices jump on turds. Great guitars like Specials have been discovered.

There were maybe a dozen made as I recall, and they were available to order at HFC 2 or 3 (1999-2000). The Sustainblocks were gold NOS that were leftover from the very late 80s/early 90s, and per Kim Keller, the production was limited to the number of bridges in the box that were still usable and without pitting. These were closer to an ‘89-early ‘91 flat top Sunburst than an actual ‘70s model (bridge placement, headstock, etc.), but every one I’ve played was a fantastic guitar!
phoenix Posted February 18, 2024 Posted February 18, 2024 are there any old years with huge necks? I could never get that right. 1", 1" deep, 1 3/4 wide at nut
Cboss Posted February 19, 2024 Posted February 19, 2024 Do these sb77's ever come up for sale? I found a picture of one with a quilt top, it's insanely beautiful!

Very rarely, since there were maybe a dozen built total. A few HFC members got to pick out their tops at the New Hartford shop that October, and there were a couple of quilt tops available.

That's incredible, and I really like that they were built for the hfc Guitar Center hostage, that's exactly right! You feel so sorry for them.. Music Go Round is worse, the place is like a pawn shop. Isaw a really nice special in one behind the counter with a ridiculous price tag on it, of course the price is the price all corporate.. it felt like seeing a puppy chained to a fire hydrant
