kizanski Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 "Larger Than Life" and "All American Man."Two of their most rocking songs ever, IMO.
Willie G. Moseley Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Considering it in LP format, my favorite side would have been whichever one was on the opposite side of the one that was being played.
elduave Posted February 7, 2008 Author Posted February 7, 2008 "Larger Than Life" and "All American Man."Two of their most rocking songs ever, IMO.I was rocking side 4 last night.Considering it in LP format, my favorite side would have been whichever one was on the opposite side of the one that was being played. Not clever enough. Just vote #5 until you come up with a worthy barb. You're a writer for Christ's sake!

RichF Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 I gotta go with side 4. Rocket Ride, All American Man. Great stuff on there.Though it is pretty funny to hear Paul sing lead and background at the same time on some of the "live" songs on sides 1-3.
MCChris Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Never had it on vinyl, only 8-track. But I voted Side 1. The opening 1-2 punch of "Detroit Rock City" and "King of the Night Time World" rules.
serial Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 This is a tough one. "Tomorrow and Tonight" screws up side 2, otherwise I'd go for that one; "Beth" screws side 3; "Makin' Love" and "Love Gun" rock side one, but I'm not thrilled with the others and "Any Way You Want It" blows...Hafta go with side 2-that's been my favorite since '77, with side 4 a close second...
BadgerDave Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Voted #5. Sorry.I liked "Strutter" and "Black Diamond". After that the gimmick got old for me.
Steve Haynie Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Since I like side 3 best on the first Alive! album I went with side 3 on KISS Alive II. I Stole Your Love and I Want You are two good standouts that popped up on only a few tour set lists. The album was one of those "sort of" live albums. They never did Hard Luck Woman or Tomorrow and Tonight live on any tour.
David B Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 I'd say side 3 is the best live side.Side 4 is great too. Larger Than Life is killer, the drums sound great. Peter doing the offbeats in that song is cool.
Lockbody Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Gotta go with side one. Side three would be a close second for me as every once and a while I try to talk the band into doing "I Stole Your Love".
elduave Posted February 7, 2008 Author Posted February 7, 2008 They never did Hard Luck Woman or Tomorrow and Tonight live on any tour.[in Johnny Carson voice] I did not know that.-->QUOTE(David B @ Feb 7 2008, 10:58 AM) ←Larger Than Life is killer, the drums sound great. Peter doing the offbeats in that song is cool.I know Bob Kulick played alot of lead on side 4, and I wouldn't be surprised if that's actually Anton Fig playing drums on LTL. Haynie?
Mr Fuzzy Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 It has been a while since I broke out the vinyl version.I don't rember the exact track listing but off the top of my head I go with side 1.
bamboohead Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Considering it in LP format, my favorite side would have been whichever one was on the opposite side of the one that was being played. How about the inside..."The way the seeds roll to the fold"
BubbaVO Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Considering it in LP format, my favorite side would have been whichever one was on the opposite side of the one that was being played.Good one. Got soda through the nose on that.Sometimes clever is funny. Sometimes brutal is funny. Willie just went medieval.Nonetheless...Detroit Rock City/King of the Nighttime World is a great way to start a live album.
cmatthes Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 They never did Hard Luck Woman or Tomorrow and Tonight live on any tour.[in Johnny Carson voice] I did not know that.Larger Than Life is killer, the drums sound great. Haynie?I thought I had some video somewhere of "HLW" during either the Rock N Roll Over and/or Dynasty tour. Not 100% certain about that, but I'll check that out. For some reason, I thought Paul was playing the 12 string parts on a Gibson 1275 on the older tour. Crap, now I'm going to have to sift through that stuff!I thought that Anton DID play drums on "LTL". It doesn't sound like anything Criss ever did.
serial Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Oh crap, I'm gonna have to pull this album out again and stick it in the car changer. Gotta track it down though-my 7 year old son commandeered a lot of my Kiss, Zep and AC/DC stuff.
Steve Haynie Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 The Hard Luck Woman video is the one with Paul and Ace playing the doubleneck together. It was done in a studio.
LordOfTheThighs Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Tough call .... each side kicks ass. But I'd say Side 1. KRANK the stereo up, balls to the wall ... and when that dude grunts out ... "YOU Wanted The Best" ... I still get goosebumps on my arms. That tour was my very first concert ... the Love Gun / ALIVE II Tour of '77-'78 Side 2 is really good, but HLW and T&T don't quite make it. Side 3 rocks hard. I Stole Your Love is one of my fav KISS Tunes. Side 4 is unique in that Kulick played on lead on those, except Rocket Ride, of course. All American Man, Larger Than Life and Rocket Ride are KISS classics. If your a KISS fan, you probably know this site. But if you don't, then this has to be the definitive KISS geek-site. LOADED with KISS facts. Very cool site. KISS Faqs
peedenmark7 Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 side one... the anticipation of "you wanted the best...." into the first 4-5 songs is powerful...though the whole thing is great.I got that album for my b-day when it came out, and it was just like being there with headphones on..man I loved kiss as a kid !
alantigold Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Had this on 8-track, not sure if I've ever had the vinyl. If I do, I never got familiar w/the sides.I'd have to go w/side 1. Side 2 loses points for "Tomorrow And Tonight" and "Hard Luck Woman" not being live. Side 3 loses out because of "I Want You" - the whole "I...I...want...want...I wahahahahawahahahahawahahahahahwahahahahawahahahahannt you" bit. The only thing missing was "People!" Side 4 loses points because of "Any Way You Want It". I'd like to have seen the version with "Take Me", "Hooligan" and "Do You Love Me" released.Incidentally, according to "Kiss Alive Forever", "Hard Luck Woman" was indeed performed live in November and December 1976, but dropped in early-mid December.Alan
Submariner85 Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Side 3 because of:I Stole Your Love - possibly my favorite Kiss songGod of ThunderI Want You - Only bad thing about this version is the I wa wa wa wa wa wa wa wa nt you Paul Stanley vocal solo.
Brooks Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 i prefer ALIVE!but, +1 for "I Stole Your Love is one of my fav KISS Tunes. All American Man, Larger Than Life and Rocket Ride are KISS classics".
