What's Your favorite Clean Boost Pedal

Somebody asked me to recommend a clean boost. I'm not up to date on what is available so the only one I could come up with was the RC Boost.

What else is out there? I don't think this guy cares too much about the $$$.

BadBob Booster

Keely Katana Boost

AC and RC Booster

...many more good ones out there, too.

Edited to address my mistakes...

+1 on the Bad Bob Booster. I love those things and they're relatively cheap compared to what's out there. I also like the new MXR/CAE boost pedal.

I use a TIM pedal, lots of uses and a clean boost is one of the many options, it's also one of the best low gain overdrives ever made, especially for Marshall sounding amplifiers.

Agreed. I also have a lowly MXR Micro Amp that does a great job as well.

Funny, I was going to mention the MXR M.A., but figured that was too "mainstream" or lowbrow for the thread.

I'm not a boo-teek-y pedal guy in the least, so that's pretty much where I'd go.

They're cheap and they work.

I've fallen in love with the BBE Freq Boost, but that being a treble booster it does change your tone. In addition, it has very limited features --just a volume control, and that's it. I've noticed people either love it or hate it, just because it either works for you or it doesn't, depending on what you want.

So, if you're looking for a well-defined attack, detailed middle-highs without going too harsh and a soaring lead tone close to Brian May and George Lynch, the BBE Freq Booster might help.

On the other hand, if you're looking for a fat, powerful tone, look elsewhere.

Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster works well.

I've got a Durham Electronics Mucho Boosto that I have set as a clean boost that I really like.

Hey Brewmaster,

I'm using the Xotic RC Booster into the effects loop of my VHT Pitbull 45/12 combo to give it a clean volume boost since I want more volume boost than what the amp could give. I also have the Xotic AC Booster that I run into the front end of my Marshall 30th Anniversary 6101 combo amp as low/medium gain tone or I run it in front of my Soldano Astroverb 16 combo amp as lead boost where I need slightly more gain/volume.

+1 for the lowbrow Micro Amp. I've been using one of the originals for decades.

To get really lowbrow, a DOD FX 10. Built as a clean boost, and has an extremely high input impedance which makes it a good cheap front end for piezo equipped acoustics.

I'm going to pick up a used AC Booster this afternoon. I scored it last month in the used GC rack but it had to sit on police hold until today. I guess I can give it a review tomorrow. I've heard it's a pretty bad-assed boost/overdrive pedal.

MI Audio Boost 'n' Buff

WOBO Booster/Buffer

Catalinbread Serrano Picoso

Catalinbread Super Chili Picoso

Toadworks MEAT Jr.

I hear that the BadBob and (not yet mentioned) Homebrew Uno Mos add a bit of grit to the boost, if that's your thing. I've been using my Voodoo Lab Tremolo as a clean boost for years. Just turn down the intensity knob to 0 and it's perfect. Only problem is I now need to be able to separately switch boost and tremolo on and off, so I'm in the market for a clean boost too, which is why I have the above list in my head.

Bad case of redeye this morning from staying up all night with the AC Booster. Nice booster, but man, it really shines as an overdrive. Very natural and very nice - sounds very non-synthetic, more like honestly pushed power tubes and speakers starting to break up a little, the way you'd want them to.

I couldn't really open up my amp in my apartment (Boogie Mark III) but I could tell it will definitely sweeten up even more with a little more heat on it. Definitely worth a test drive.

Love my Keeley Java Boost but I wouldn't call it a clean boost. It is almost more of a light fuzz.

For clean boost I use the boost on my Boss GE7 graphic equalizer.

I use a compressor for a boost. For years, I was using a Boss from the 80's...actually still have it. Now I use the Barber compressor.

I love my Keeley Java Boost too. As well I would in no way refer to it as a "clean" boost. On the contrary.

HOWEVER, Keeley offers a pedal called Katana which IS a clean boost and incidentally gets my vote as the best available. Sterling recommendation!

I haven't found a pedal yet that is quite loud enough to use for a solo boost. What is the absolute loudest boost pedal out there? How many db boost?
