PSA - Nice looking Vintage S

Looks real nice.

...but I'm just not feeling it.

One reason is I just acquired the Blueburst Centaura that I've been waiting for all my life. If I'm going to have a trem-equipped guitar, it might as well be 24-fret with a HB.

But the other reason, I think, is tiger-stripe flamed maple never really got me that excited.

So...how rare is a Vintage S? Why would someone want a Vintage S w/ a Floyd and 3 SC PUs rather than a Centaura or Chap with a splittable HB and 2 SC PUs?

Anyone own a Vintage S that wants to brag on it and/or vouch for 'em?

Or from another perspective, why a Vintage S rather than a T-62?

I don't see it lasting long at that price. It would already be gone if it had an SSH pickup arrangement and the ABM trem.

Solid maple body perhaps?

That Centura was very intersting but the owner said there was checking in the finish, so I lost interest. Especially at that price. Nice guitar tho. Let me know how you liked it. I loved that the guitar had the 2 boomer neck. I have a Cali with the 2 boomers. Really nice.

If I did not already have a Vintage S, it would be gone already. That a nice one at a good price. Someone snatch this one up.

I'm into ostentatious, so I'd prefer more boomers, but at least I finally have a boomer-equipped USA model. Now I can relax.

For a few months.

Interestingly, I don't know why checking in the finish doesn't bother me at all. [shrug] I guess I am somewhat into mojo.

God, I love Hamer guitars.

Is that a one piece neck? I thought that Hamer made three piece necks and some neck thru bodies, but this I don't understand. And just what the heck is a vintage S?

Yup, one piece neck (not counting the fingerboard of course). They made a few models with that type of neck (Diablo, etc). Only true neck through I recall is a bass model.

Every Vintage S I've ever seen has had a killer flame maple body. The one for sale is no exception. Most of the ones I encountered had the ABM trem (which was also used on the T62 from the same timeframe).

That one is a steal.

I had one for a while that I bought from Wolf Hoffman. It was a great guitar! This one is a bargain at that price.

As Bob mentioned above, after '79, Hamer did one piece necks on a few bolt-on models (Daytona/T-51, Vintage S, a few others) and the Triple Threat run of a few years back. The others had the 3 piece construction.

The only neck through was the multi-laminated Impact Bass (not the Kip Winger style, but the Bubinga, Maple, etc. version). They did a few set necks with blended heels that people think are neck throughs, but they aren't.

Although Nathan OBFF doesn't particularly dig 'em  , the Vintage S has traditionally been a much sought-after model. It represented the top of the line of the bolt-ons at the time, and was one of the more expensive models.

Even with the non-original case, that one is still a great deal.

Looks like someone nabbed it. That price reflects what they were going for about over five years ago. The other interesting thing about it is no pre-amp.

Most of the T-62s/Vintage S guitars will have those preamp switches replaced with a tone pot. My guess is that it isn't original and it does require some widening of the hole in order to accommodate the pot. It is a very common mod, but almost always a mod and not factory. You never know with a Hamer of this vintage though.

So it went for $825 eh. Another "bad economy score" for someone. I have a Vint S with the ABM roller bridge, locking tuners, Pao Ferro fingerboard, SD Vint or Cool Rails pups, I can't recall. The bridge pup can get a wee bit "ice picky". Its a candidate for a swap.

Mini toggle switch for the onboard pre-amp (which btw is still working), from what I have gathered the pre-amp is a weak spot and when it fails if you want to replace it you have some work ahead of you. Apparently there is no direct replacement. Ya know what? Just for laughs I oughta peel open the Duotone to see if that pre-amp would drop in.

I really like the fact that the body is obviously styled after the Strat body but its IIRC 7/8 the size of a standard strat body. The smaller size feels very comfy and nice & light weight. Overall the guitar looks awesome, solid 2 piece flame maple body, birdseye maple neck a little on the skinny side. Purrrrrrty!

VintS luv thread perhaps? I know there are a few Bright Yellow & Salmon Blush specimens out there.

Halloween eye candy.

ps - mine is not for sale unless you have stupid large amounts of cash and you will come pick it up.

Those are vintage rails pickups Caddie. If the eBay VintageS was configured like yours, I would have been all over it, but 3 single coils and a Floyd is ?!?

Agreed. Some things just ain't right. That's one of 'em.

Another is Kim's one-off Archtop Cali with... a TOM...and 3 single coil...EMG's!

I'd still hit it though

The EMG HEQ preamp drops in. It seems less fragile and a lot less wires to deal with. Has the 4 internal wrenching pots like the Copelands that are accessed through the back. I've had a few in a couple Vintage S's I've had. I can't remember the tonal differences if any between the EMG HEQ pre and the Copeland TC300 pre. Don't know if the EMG pre was ever used as original equipment but the Copeland pre was. I've bought a couple of the EMG preamps from BCR music. I can't recall the exact price but I think they run $30-40.

Thanks e-isle. note to self EMG HEQ pre amp drops into VintS

This is one model that confuses me.......

What is the difference between a Vintage S and a T62? Is it something more than flame maple body on one and a pickguard on the other?

That's partly it. Also, T62's weren't available with a Floyd or with the SSH pickup layout. Certainly variations on the same theme that could have been named as variations on the same model.

The finish is flawless as I had already stated to you. All guitars after a while get checking as the paint sinks into the wood. You missed out.
