jisham Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 LOL. Of course he won't build a white for ME! He made that real clear years ago when I ordered one. This one came after the infamous "Larry R." Standard debacle of 2002 or so - basically, a customer ordered a "refrigerator white" Standard, then blew a gasket and caused a huge uproar when he found/thought he found a couple of flyspecks in the white paint. I never saw the alleged defects, but as legend goes, he apparently created such a stink over it that they bought it back and stopped doing white finishes over mahogany/korina for a while: Of course, since then, there have been a number of white over mahogany/korina guitars, but some people (Poe, Jaye) made their requests during the loosely-structured, oddly-reasoned blackout period. Uh no...I tried to get a white Standard before Larry's (Riffmonger's) was approved. I remember when he called me about his order and I was fucking pissed. Riff and I go way back -- in fact, I'm the guy who turned him on to Hamers and we are still friends to this day. Yes, Hamer got a little weirded out about white after that, but I was turned down months before he got his done. Of course that was after he'd already done a few custom orders I believe, so I guess being that it would've been my FIRST custom order, I didn't qualify or something. Jol can kiss my ass and I'm not afraid to say it.
Ted Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Wonder if he'll do a white finish?Jaye, You are way too funny, and right on once again.

I was often in a certain HFC member/dealer's shop when an order was denied and then again when a customer (actually it happened several times) called the dealer to ask WTF?!" when Jol posted pictures of either the same guitar they made for someone else.I have less than zero interest in anything that Jol might be making now, even if I did feel like spending that sort of coin on it. I see Dantzig Designs as more of a hobby thing for him than a real guitar business, but that's just what it looks like to me, based on no information other than his blog posts. The whole "Tribe" thing is extremely silly to me.
MCChris Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 The whole "Tribe" thing is extremely silly to me.If it came from anybody else I'd swear it was a parody.
specialk Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Seems geared towards the Guitar Afficiando magazine crowd.EXACTLY what popped into my head when I read it! Can't wait to see the ad.
elduave Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Anger Crewman "Riff" was my first custom order sale. I should have run screaming right then. I'll never forget when he said something like, "every time I look at the guitar I see your face and it makes me mad". The best part was joking with a certain HFC member/twin about some big 'ole elduave head truss rod covers to really rub it in.You guys kill me.BTW, IIRC, he flew off the handle for the guitar not being ready at the 6 month window. The top cracked while it was drying so it ran a little long. Big whoop. The whole "Tribe" thing is extremely silly to me.If it came from anybody else I'd swear it was a parody.I'm a Peppermint Tribe man, myself.
burningyen Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 What happened to the flyspeck white Standard after it was returned?
jisham Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 What happened to the flyspeck white Standard after it was returned?Hamer Resold it. Siap owns it now.
crunchee Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 I was reading the bio on this website...it says that Jol was out of Hamer from 1993 to 1997. Funnily enough, that's my favorite year groupings for Hamers. Coincidence?
BCR Greg Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 Signature guitars begin at$16,000 - $24,000Did I just read this?DR. No thinks a good bit of hisseff, don't he?
ArnieZ Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 I was wondering if those prices were retail or street I have no axe to grind with Jol, always treated me well. I hope he sells all the guitars he wants to, but way out of my league! ArnieZ
BCR Greg Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 Serving the client is only one side of the coin; just as fitting my designs into a template dictated by a company policy isn't my priority any longer.Good God.
silentman Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 Now's the chance to pull the trigger on a 20k Californian.
specialk Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 Jol Dantzig I just read this entire page and didn't see Paul named once. Sour grapes?
elduave Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 I was wondering if those prices were retail or street I have no axe to grind with Jol, always treated me well. I hope he sells all the guitars he wants to, but way out of my league! ArnieZ There's not gonna be a "street" price for this kind of thing. Those who want/can will pony up direct, for whatever the price dictated.
BCR Greg Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 "Signature guitars begin at$16,000 - $24,000Please feel free to distribute this text."
cmatthes Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 Now's the chance to pull the trigger on a 20k Californian. You can get a $20k Cali if you want, but I'll put money on the fact that you can get one for a fraction of that now if you ordered it.

HSB0531 Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 Makes a new C/O Hamer look like a steal, doesn't it.
Guest Guitarist Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 I don't see a realistic market at that price point. While everyone seems to be enjoying piling on, fact is without his vision and efforts this forum doesn't exist. Maybe he is quirky and difficult to deal with at times, so are many creative types. Think his prima donna customers are better? Why not just wish him well and see where the chips land?
GC Ron Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 The whole "Tribe" thing is extremely silly to me. If it came from anybody else I'd swear it was a parody. Isn't Henry starting a Revolution and Inciting a Swarm over at Gibson?
