Brooks Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 this pic especially; look at their faces! i love it; we're posting our little bar gigs, i post my midlife crisis rush tribute playing in the fookin' local park at 9am infront of maybe 30 uninterested 5K runners, then kevin swoops in w/ real rockstar shit. honestly, its awesome. fook it, i'm skipping class and about to crank up some manowar!
kevinbower1959 Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Hey Brooks,Don't think like that buddy, because this isn't a contest - I'm just an ordinary guy like you who plays for the love of it - and if I can maybe sometimes throw out a little inspiration as to what life's like on a bigger stage AND wave the flag for Hamer then I'll happily share pictures for anyone interested enough to look. I actually used some of the less 'impressive' pics because of exactly what you've said - I didn't want any of my fellow HFC'ers to react and get the wrong impression.I am very, VERY, V-E-R-Y fortunate to be in a band who have the necessary major-label support and opportunity to play these big shows with a cool tour bus and so on - but ultimately, I think all of us here are the same. We all do it because we love it, and we do it the best we can - irrespective of whether the crowd size is 25 - or the 25,000 as we played to last week. It's also worth mentioning that I've waited almost 30 years for this to happen. I'm 52 years old now and it's all just starting for us - so keep at it buddy - you never know what's around the next corner.Don't ever feel that setting up in the park and playing kickass Rush covers isn't enough - because it is. It's enough because it's what makes you happy and gives you that outlet we all have to do something creative and fun instead of sitting in front of a TV grossing out on junk food. Amen to that, I say.Best wishes Kev

Hats off to everybody who plays, for whatever reason, and whether they play to screaming hordes at big-assed rock festivals or in their basement to their cat, it's all cool. If you're having fun doing it, that's what it's all about. There'll always be the haters and the guys with crossed arms off to the side or in the back of the club, but just remember they more or less have to make up for shortcomings elsewhere...

hamerhead Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 this pic especially; look at their faces! That rocks right there. It's gotta be the coolest feeling ever to have an entire crowd so into what you're doing. And DOOOOD - you're OLD!!! (I'm 52 this year.) I love what you're doing, and it really does inspire an old fart like me. Thank you for that! I actually used some of the less 'impressive' pics because of exactly what you've said - I didn't want any of my fellow HFC'ers to react and get the wrong impression. Post 'em up. WE WANNA SEE!!!!
cmatthes Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Now, GROUPIE pics are an entirely different matter...
elduave Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Hey Kevin-Just read about you guys in my fave rag, Classic Rock! Good on ya!
gorch Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Applause for the best forum ever! Sorry, I cannot contribute picturesc to the gig show. I sure need a band. Dunno how to manage it with family, house and job, but last Sunday our new neighbors asked who'd been playing that nice guitar sound. The cat flees when the strings ring, however.

BlueRedWhite Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Thank you Kevin for those words. I've got a very talented friend who, at 40, thinks it's maybe time to let go of his passion, which is playing metal. Took a guy like you to prove my point, which is: never give up the dream. What makes life worth living and what makes us really humans, is overcoming the everyday routines and bring forth our dreams despite all. I feel validated now and break a leg on your tour..looks simply awesome. \m/
juanferdiaz Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 Not exactly recent but Hamer related and the pictures worth a show. My beloved and extinct punk rock band Crazy Mandingos. For you to have a hint we used to cover "He's a Whore" by Cheap Trick and "Sister Havanna" by Urge Overkill. Cheers, Juan
zorrow Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 As Kev said, this isn't a contest, so here's my very last gig -my wife forgot the camera, so she took just some pictures with her cell: Now the story: My daughter's school organized a show to raise funds to help Mali. Some kids wrote their own songs, some others performed known hits. I played guitar on two Miley Cyrus songs, performed by my daughter and a friend. The songs where "The Climb" and "When I Look At You". The whole show lasted almost two hours and the kids closed with an amazing rendition of "Bridge Over Troubled Waters". The whole thing was a true blast for me, though it was far from my usual metal gig.

mathman Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 I get to "gig" twice a year. During the Great American Teach-in and at the end of year luncheon/retirement party for my school. I'm just a wanna be rocker. You guys Rock!
HoboMan Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 Seeing as my band has only played twice this year I'll have to post one from last year. By the way, anyone in the Madison WI area looking for a guitarist?
Brooks Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 really proud of DavidB & SPANK for their performance last weekend (and of myself for taking 1 good rawk shot while half drunk using someone elses camera, ha).
robbie Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 I just found this a couple of minutes ago. I had no idea it was out there. kind of a "gig pic". mind you, the pedal steel player had never heard the song before this performance...
