Thundersteel Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 Anyone have any experience with them? I know they were a ghost builder for Dean, and I have have heard only good things about them. I'm lusting after their Hornet, Blackhawk, and VXtreme models.
BubbaVO Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 I checked out a Hornet at BCR Music years ago - yellowish, 3 pickups (?), and a very cool shaped neck. Awesome guitar. Felt really solid - different than any SG I'd tried out. If I would have had the scratch I would've bought it. I still look now and then for a used one to pop up, but they don't seem to plentiful ... for obvious reasons.
BadgerDave Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Out of business. The shop tools, parts, finished and unfinished guitars and amps were auctioned off a couple of weeks ago. Damn shameDave and Dick Regenberg are great guys.

Seems to have been some weirdness in the past couple years with the Young Guitars thing (I guess Young Guitars bought them). I never really got into their stuff, but I played a few in the local Guitar stores when I lived in Madison; they seemed pretty nice. Heavy though.-Austin
BCR Greg Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Mine for life. I did a lot of business with that company...they made great guitars but couldn't decide just what kind of business they were. They were direct only, then wanted dealers, then went back to direct, then back to dealers.......etc. The guitars are great, tho.

cmatthes Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Nice guitars, from all accounts, but those freakin' headstocks give Heritage a run for "Worst Headstock Design Ever"!
Thundersteel Posted August 14, 2013 Author Posted August 14, 2013 but those freakin' headstocks give Heritage a run for "Worst Headstock Design Ever"! I have to disagree. Jame Tyler Guitars IMHO have the worst design:
cmatthes Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Possibly a 3-Way Tie!!!Those things look goofy.
Disturber Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 but those freakin' headstocks give Heritage a run for "Worst Headstock Design Ever"!I have to disagree. Jame Tyler Guitars IMHO have the worst design:Yes, great looking guitars! Except for the headstocks, and the tribal inlays on the vee. I love that SG.Have to ad PRS to the list of ugly headstocks.
Montelovesco Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 There are some on US ebay rigth now... Nothing in Germany. A pity, because I would like to ty one...
hamerhead Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Dick and Dave were great guys. Used to shop their store all the time. Sad to see the brand go.
sixesandsevens Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Out of business. The shop tools, parts, finished and unfinished guitars and amps were auctioned off a couple of weeks ago. Any idea why their website is still active?I'm wondering the same. A few have passed through my local GC. One trans red superstrat hardtail that I should have bought, but all have been nice.
zorrow Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Their site is still on and nothing there would make you think they went OOB. I had a Dean V built by them and it was an awesome guitar, so beautiful and well-crafted that I was scared to death to play it, so I sold it. I like the look of their Vees, but they are 25.5" and I'm used to 24.75", and in addition I don't know how thin or thick their necks are. In short, I have safer bets for me around.
BadgerDave Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 It is curious that the website is still active. The shop in Middleton is empty. I know a guy who bought over 20 finished amps at the auction for a ridiculously low price. These are the AC 30 type combos. Everything that was being used to build guitars at that location was broken into lots and sold. I registered for the auction, but didn't bid on anything. I was hoping to find a Hornet, but there wasn't a single one listed. It's possible that some finished inventory was segregated and is being sold through the website. Possibly the brand was sold and guitars will be produced elsewhere.
hamerhead Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 From what I saw on the auction site, the guitars and basses were from their import line. May have missed 'em, but I didn't see any USA stuff. This Avada (their LP-type) is for sale locally:http://madison.craigslist.org/msg/3963118194.htmlIt's really tempting, but do I really need another guitar?
BadgerDave Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 There was a very interesting lot of 12-14 in-process guitars, that included a couple of Dean Cadillacs. One of them was nearly complete except for the finish.A friend went to the pre-sale and said there were other lots listed as "Miscellaneous Cases" that had guitars in them. I suspect a lot of the inventory will be showing up on ebay soon.
DaveL Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 the guys I jam with say my US Masters built Dean is my best sounding guitar... I love it, will have to keep an eye on ebay.
Armitage Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Their site is still on and nothing there would make you think they went OOB.But their phone is disconnected...
Texas Fury Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 I can't find the thread for Part One of this story, Mr Paul Harvey...
