murkat Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 Dave's LP sig is done on this side, off to Stike for some pippin flake Custom, Murkat ized Chappy... Another Chap, all black, all bad. All of it.
coolfeel Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 Jay - that drop top Chap is fucking insane!
Bobby Marshall Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 Can't wait to see these after the magic is complete.
The Shark Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 I'm thinkin' Chappy is the "runt" in the litter. That'd be the one I'd choose every time. I just got my Black Bart '79 Sunburst back from Jay. It's just perfect. Jay's are my favorite recurring threads here.
murkat Posted September 27, 2013 Author Posted September 27, 2013 Got a new spider guardian out front of the shop entry... All bound up and primer coated. Black back with a mukat cobalt burst on the top side. will be avail for purchase next month. waiting for some parts to put the Black Chap together, will be avail next week. and procured a very nice large sheet of curly flamed maple veneer for some possible near future guits....

crunchee Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 Got a new spider guardian out front of the shop entry... Fantastic work, can't wait to see 'em when they're all done! Has that spider caught any dragonflies yet?
murkat Posted September 28, 2013 Author Posted September 28, 2013 I was doing OK until the spider... Since Judy and I have a Ranch house with 2.5 acre, We get the crawl space under the home sprayed, but that is it. We have quite the collection of living critters around the house, we leave them be. Blue tail lizards everywhere, toads, tree frogs, Mantis, there's even tadpoles in tortoise's pond out front. Everything keeps everything naturally in check. But that Garden spider is the least on the WTF list that goes around the property... Not one snake thou at least, I have not seen one yet...

I live in a bit of a jungle/bug heaven. And I see no reason to kill a spider or any of the useful critters until all the flies, mosquitoes, and other irritant types are gone. I could use more frogs, spiders, lizards, and etc. I yeah, I could use something with that quilted maple on it as well, hmm.
serial Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 Those spiders are badassed (but harmless). Agree on tge no kill unless it's a Black Widow or Brown Recluse. I'll off Yellow Sac spiders in the house, but only because everyone else freaks when tgey show up on the ceiling or a wall.Nature is cool. That Chap is awesome! Personally, I think it'd look better with a bourbon burst and a cherry trans back, but that's only because I hate solid- backed guitars when there's nice mahogany to show off! Beautiful work as always, sir!

Beautiful work as always, sir! Agreed fully. But the back and sides have seen better days, and nothing is wrong with the finish on the neck, hence my decision black back and sides, fading into a cobalt burst on top. The ivoroid binding will set it off
BadgerDave Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 This is how the Les Paul Sig started: The pickup area was a real mess with a badly hacked attempt to fit humbuckers in the original low impedance pickup mounting holes. You can see how the pickup mounting rings don't quite cover the holes. The guitar had a number of other amateur mods, all of which have been reversed/fixed/made right by Jay. I can't wait to get this back from Stike, wire it up and bring it back to life. An LP Signature has been on my want list for decades.

So Murkat inserted and glued a new piece of wood in there and then routed it correctly for Humbuckers? Thats cool.
murkat Posted September 28, 2013 Author Posted September 28, 2013 " So Murkat inserted and glued a new piece of wood in there and then routed it correctly for Humbuckers? "Well, it was a little more than just that, but in a nut shell, yes.The pickup holes were previously enlarged to accommodate full size Humbuckers.Who ever did the butcher job also removed keystone support woods as well,Top structural bracing, neck joint to top bracing, etc.So there were little pieces of hand carved fitted pieces that had to be madefor certain specific areas so the guitar could act, function like it was suppose to,a semi hollow with no block between the pickup orifices.
