oldskoolrulz Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 the music zoo posted this on fb yesterday, diggin the color but not sure about the "peace" theme... http://www.themusiczoo.com/product/19774/Gibson-Les-Paul-Peace-Electric-Guitar-Mellow-Out-Green/
polara Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 40 years too late. Ick...Not for the jam band scene. Which is a real hotbed of electric guitars now.
crunchee Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 No tree-huggin' hippie is gonna buy a NEW guitar, it isn't eco-friendly! Especially after Henry's problems with the Feds in recent years. That reminds me, I wonder what happened to all those 'Smartwood' LPs from several years ago?
MCChris Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 I'd buy it if the pickup covers were engraved with "of" and "shit."
stonge Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 I'd buy it if the pickup covers were engraved with "of" and "shit."MCChris says it best.
Thundersteel Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 I wish manufacturers would leave off the pickguards!
Jakeboy Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 I dig the knobs. In fact, if I can find them fir sale, I'll get some.
DaveH Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 I'd buy it if the pickup covers were engraved with "of" and "shit."Good one!
zzzdat Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 It's ugly, a Les Paul should not be green unless its a goldtop with stain, oxidation and mildew. Cool Beans Gene
diablo175 Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 As an unabashed fan of green guitars, i will say.... ewww. No thanks.Maybe with a green burst going to black or a nice pronounced flame maple along with some black hardware, (Including an OFR, naturally) and without the peace shit. Maybe then I'd consider it.
crunchee Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Maybe there's a discount to be had, by asking how much they'd knock off the price, for selling it with just plain knobs, a plain tailpiece, and a plain truss rod cover?
Hackubus Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Izzat the Donnie Vie Enuff Z Nuff Siggie model?
RichRS6 Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 No tree-huggin' hippie is gonna buy a NEW guitar, it isn't eco-friendly! Especially after Henry's problems with the Feds in recent years. That reminds me, I wonder what happened to all those 'Smartwood' LPs from several years ago? Proof (as if anyone needed it) that once again Gibson have completely lost the plot. Is there an unwritten rule that large guitar companies have to be run by complete fuckwits.
Willie G. Moseley Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 "Yawn".... I've had green instruments (including a custom-built hollowbody thinline called the "PackerPicker" w/ gold hardware and oval-G emblems on the headstock and 12th fret), but anything with a peace symbol on and/or that word in the type of Woodstock script as found on the tailpiece is an obvious time-warp nostalgia item, regardless of what kind of job it can do as an instrument. One might expect the marketing of this guitar to include a case that exudes a patchouli aroma when opened....
Hamer Time Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 They should at least give respect to the "peace" symbol and what it actually is."Gerald Holtom, a conscientious objector who had worked on a farm in Norfolk during the Second World War, explained that the symbol incorporated the semaphore letters N(uclear) and D(isarmament).""One of the most widely known symbols in the world, in Britain it is recognised as standing for nuclear disarmament – and in particular as the logo of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND). In the United States and much of the rest of the world it is known more broadly as the peace symbol. It was designed in 1958 by Gerald Holtom, a professional designer and artist and a graduate of the Royal College of Arts. He showed his preliminary sketches to a small group of people in the Peace News office in North London and to the Direct Action Committee Against Nuclear War, one of several smaller organisations that came together to set up CND."http://www.cnduk.org/information/info-sheets/item/435-the-cnd-symbolAre Gibson paying Gerald for use of his design, I doubt it. Should be called the "Gerald Holtom" model.
RichRS6 Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Whatever the article says the peace symbol was around a long, long time before the CND claimed it and stuck it on a badge. It's a Norse Rune called Algiz (meaning Elk). Its original meaning is unknown but I'm now sure it means "This guitar sucks".
anotherfreak Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 "Although specifically designed for the anti-nuclear movement it has quite deliberately never been copyrighted. No one has to pay or to seek permission before they use it. A symbol of freedom, it is free for all."???maybe 'cause it was already in use before the CND annexed it
dragan Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 like the sentiment , hate the guitar,...... Willi G said :One might expect the marketing of this guitar to include a case that exudes a patchouli aroma when opened.... made me think of Northern Prarie music , big ol wiff of patchouli everytime ya opened the door.
