Anyone using Eminence Speakers?

I dig the CRex and was going to spring for a Canis Major but I think I'll try something different first. Hows the Red White and Blues? GC Sells the Rex and the Blues in a set together and I found a couple used at a good price. I want to pair it with the C-Rex I already have.

I use their Reignmakers, they have a built in attenuator so you can reduce the output, very useful and it doesn't (substantially) affect the tone.

They do a British and an American voiced version.

I like the British voiced one, haven't tried the American voiced one but haven't had any problems and they're not hugely expensive ($80.00).

I put 2 Red White and Blues in an early 70s Blackfaced Twin Reverb, they work well in the Twin. Someone on an amp forum recommended them..maybe Bruce at Mission Amps, been a while though.

Also have a Maverick attenuator that came with a Lil Dawg 25W 5E3 Deluxe I found on CL..sounds good to me. Heard good things about the Canabis Rex.

I am a bit of a speaker whore....I hated the Emi RWB.....when used with a fender 6g3 brown deluxe clone! it sounded like a blanket over the amp...just deadened everything. Hated it and couldn't trade it away fast enough.

OTOH, I LOVE the Emi Red Fang alnico and ceramic Texas Heat in any and every application I have used them in.....fender to Marshall and Valco! they both seem to work in everything perfectly. Very different, though. The Red fang is Chimey, British, and compresses nicely at volume. The Texas Heat is punchy, crunchy, and authoritative. A bit of an American and British blend in one speaker.

I have 2 Fangs in by 2x12 closed back awaiting a blonde bassman clone and the Heat is in a 1x12 cab where it gets used with all my amps. I gigged in last week with my 6g3 clone and it was glorious.

The GB 128 comes highly recommended though I have never tried one.

I like the Governors as a good middle of the road speaker. Slightly dark.

Otoh, Wizards respond Fast and are in your face. More trebly.

I have a 4x12 loaded with GB12s. Fantastic speakers.

+1 on the Red Fang. Have one in my Black Pearl 30 and really enjoy that amp. Also have a Reignmaker in an open-back 1x12 but really haven't spent much time with it.

I love the Red, White & Blues. Had a pair in my Marshall 4140 Club & Country, which basically is Marshalls take on the Fender Twin. They sounded huge in that one, with a sparkly top.

I have a R,W&B in my old Deluxe Reverb right now and it sounds even better in there. Makes it sound like a 2x12. It's a pretty fat sounding speaker, lots of bottom, but it also has a very nice top. Not ice picky, but smooth.

They are great in amps that sound a Little thin, or are very trebly. They just kinda beef everything up a notch. For a big sounding amp I think they might be to much.

The R,W&B is a mix of an English type of speaker and a US one, kinda like mixing a Celestion and an old Fender speaker (Jensen, Eminence).

Weber has a few models with the same idea, like the Signature 12B. The R,W&B sound much fatter, and handles more power. I like it better when pushed, it holds everything together where the Sig12B starts to fart out and sound weak. Weber also has the 12F150B, which is more sturdy than the Sig12B, I have never tried it, but I assume that it will be more like the R,W&B.

The Reverend Alltone, made by Eminence, was a popular speaker that I Think first came up with the concept of mixing a UK cone with a US speaker construction. Don't know the exact technical details. But the Reverend Alltone is not available anymore and I Think much of the ideas from that speaker went in to the R,W&B. It just handles more wattage. I really like that it can handle 120 Watts.

The Red, White & Blues is built like a tank and sounds like heaven! It takes a looong time to break them in properly though, don't expect them to sound great right out of the box. I gave the doping a little treatment on mine, even after it was a few years old.

Cannabis is good stuff, man. Have the CR in my VAC25 and love it. It creates a very transparent vintage sound. It had been a bit crisp in the beginning. Now has settled to a lovely tone.

Thanks for all the input. I think Eminence is a great company and they have excellent quality. USA MADE and done super well.

I have used an Eminence Cannabis Rex on an Omega Amps modded Hot Rod Deluxe amp that I used to own. I loved that it tamed the brightness of the amp and made the overdrive tone sound smooth. I currently use the Eminence Lil' Buddy 10" speaker in my Reverend Goblin 5/15 amp. It sounded bright with the stock Jensen Neo 10-100 speaker, but harsh when you overdrive the amp. The Lil' Buddy sounds darker and tamed the harsh tone of that amp. It sounds good when played clean or dirty.

I've had Red Fangs in two amps. LOUD, sensitive, seem to have a lot of upper-mid "detail" if that makes sense.

My favorite Speaker combination is a Emi Governor & a Cannabis Rex. I have this set up in two different cabs. It a good mix of Bright & Midrange , and has the Paper tone of smaller wattage speakers when you punch the volume.

I've got a Governor paired with a Red, White & Blues. Nice combination of articulation and whump.

I've also got a Red, White & Blues in a 1x12. Great when combined with a clean amp.

I have to be careful with speaker choice. The Budda Phat Cat (Come to find out today that it was a really well made V30 from Eminence) sounded great but then I switched to the Tone Tubbys to cut some of the High End and now the amp is balanced with just about every solid body I put in it. I know the C Rex is similar but I would like to pair it with a speaker that maybe has a little more highs to slightly brighten the tone. I'm thinking the RWB's is the ticket, but I have not like the samples from Youtube.

i haven't tried every speaker out there but i've gone thru maybe a dozen 12's (various emi's & celestions, a few webers & EV's) and a several 10's, the manowar was by far my fave 12 and the rajun cajun was my fave 10.

Bubs, I had a tone tubby 40/40 for a while in my Marshall 18 watt clone from Lil Dawg. It was just too punchy after the Red Fang 's alnico goodness, but the TT sounded great.....it was 1000s times better that the broken in RWB I tried with my 6G3.

I really wanted to love the RWB too. The 18 watt clone now has a Weber Legacy that just sounds so Marshally.

I would think the TT is a perfect fit for the Buddah. I have my Fangs in a 2x12 awaiting a Blonde Bassman clone from Lil Dawg.

I love the EV SRO alnico in everything as well. Adds a lot of weight to a cab or combo but it is worth it. I have one in an open back cab, a beat old spare boxed up in the garage, and a WGS Blackhawk 100 loaded in a Traynor YGM3. It is an SRO clone.

Sorry to ramble but I love talking speakers. Emis are great. The Texas Heat sounds great as do the Fangs. The Tonequest report did a good review of them a few years back. Good info in that article.

I love Webers too.

I miss the SNAP when going to the TT's, I mean I lost a little of the Tele'ish Tone I had when using a brighter speaker. I feel I want to blend two speakers. I bought the Hardtrucker Cab for this reason. To be able to throw a few speakers in without having to mess with my main cab, which I like just the way it is.

Have a Ragin' Cajun 10" in my Leslie cab. Kinda sounds like ass, but I need its wattage rating in a 10" driver to handle the output from my Bassman head. I haven't had my hair blown back by any of the Eminence speakers I've owned, but I think that's only been about three of them over the years.

My Tone King Metro has a "custom" Eminence, wouldn't change a thing about it. Don't know what model it's based off of. Not much help, but just giving a shout out to the high quality Eminence is capable of.

The Cajun has a very flat EQ. So in a Leslie it may sound like just that FLAT.

I have to admit i'm pretty damn happy with the Tone Tubby 2x12 and the 40/40's. The only guitar that doesn't like this setup is my Newport. The Newport with PhatCats is a smooth guitar now its almost too smooth.
