Disturber Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 check out the fretboard. http://www.hamerguitars.com/?fa=cust18_pop# Nice FLAMES. But it shoulda been bound!I don't like colored fretboards. Looksvery 80's. Don't remember which brandsold really cheap guitars with fretboardslike this in the 80's. Aouch.
silentman Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 I think if you bind the fretboard it interrupts the flow of the paint onto the neck. I was thinking about an all flamebodied Vector the other day.
phoenix Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 silent, they have already said they would do it for me. make sure the body is 2 sold pieces or it will twist (as per Jol.) I can still find find Franks prices with solid flame maple wings if you are really going to do it. steve

Aouch. I had a red Series 10 in the 80's. Red super strat plywood guitar. Fretboard was red. JUUUUUNK! But hey a girlfirend bought it for me and my G&L was too ugly to play in a metal band.
Mike_C Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 Very cool I wish it had binding too but damn it is a wild looking guitar.
Steve Haynie Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 There is no flame maple veneer on the headstock! What happened? Was that option too expensive?
MCChris Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 There is no flame maple veneer on the headstock! What happened? Was that option too expensive? Would have negated the impact of the flamed logo, perhaps?
ArnieZ Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 May not be a mojority opinion but that does nothing for me! If I had a vector it would definitely be Korina.ArnieZ
Steve Haynie Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 Would have negated the impact of the flamed logo, perhaps? Flamed pearl? Is that abalone I smell fryin'?
Jack C Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 May not be a mojority opinion but that does nothing for me! If I had a vector it would definitely be Korina.ArnieZ Yep. It's definitely cool and different but it doesn't particularly float my boat. Now THIS one I love:
HAMERMAN Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 There is no flame maple veneer on the headstock! What happened? Was that option too expensive? +1That would have really out it over the top! :-)
stoobs77 Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 i'm usually not a fan of colored fretboards....but, daaaaaamn.
JJ Paul Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 JackC...you IS darn right! Was my favourite, tooJJ
Brownsound Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 Me likey but colored fretboards dont wear very well. I love Hamer though!
Michael_ Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 Me likey but colored fretboards dont wear very well. The main challenge was to deep-stain the fingerboard to resist wearing through while stillmatching the color of the guitar. -Jol DanzigAnyway, I like it. I think its subtle, binding and a flamed headstock would have detracted from the whole packing in my opinion.
wyldbil Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 That guitar in trans cherry, no burst, would be nirvana (NOT the heroin addict band) for me.*swoon*
thecajunboy Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 Count me in with the "Where's the flamed headstock?" crowd. That was my first impression. Then I read the text along with the pictures. I don't know about y'all, but that Willcutt dream about a flaming guitar sounds like BS. When I dream, I dream about going to school nekkid, getting in fights, flying like a bird, and other wierd crap. And what's with the bragging about the mahogany matching on the neck and body? If it matched, I wouldn't be able to see where the two meet so easily.
earachemyeye Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 Too much red for my tastes. I like the one in JackC's post. They sure got some nice stuff over there.Joe
El Kabong Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 Earl Slick was the first player of note to have a red fretboard, IIRC. Fernandes has a few out now as well, one that is a signature model of a Japanese player, featuring a black cat 12th fret inlay. Many high end makers won't use such highly figured neck wood, as it has been deemed too unstable.
