hamerhead Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 Really diggin' the Cobra. It's like the logical next step in the evolution of the Hamer Studio in the same way the Ultimate is a sleeker, updated version of the Standard. It looks comfortable with a great flow. Can't wait to try one.
Citrus Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 The names match up to race cars. (Cobras were meant for one type of race, and Mavericks have been popular with drag racers for their bodies. Everything else underneath is totally redone.) Is it a coincidence that these Shishkov guitars are named after cars, and the former employer had guitars named after racetracks? And, I think the inlay @ the 12th fret may give a slight nod to Guild?? Reminds me of a "Southwestern" run they did. Will be inquiring about a stripped down all hog, 1 pup (maybe firebird style mini?). The Ultimate is the beauty, this would be its beast counterpart.

carfish7 Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 Slap a Koa top on, work in that 25.5 scale and it may be perfect for this broke-ass dreamer!Fine work gentlemen!
Hamerica Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 Oh man! If you said those were for sale, they would be snatched up in NO time!Me! Me! ME! ME! Sorry, I got carried away, I just got home read this thread and I thought the teacher was picking someone...I now feel 100% vindicated in not buying and Ultimate and holding out for what was coming next. ETA: Not that the Ultimates aren't gorgeous, but good lord... what a sexy vamp on the double cut theme!LucSulla, Not so fast on that vindication thought. Come up and let me put an Ultimate in your hand and then we see if you still feel vindicated! I agree both the Cobra and Maverick are incredible guitars. I like the names. Carroll and Viper would be proud to see those names used on such quality instruments. Jester...not so much. Hamerica
Bennyboy-UK Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 There was no Cobra in "Top Gun," so I think you should ditch it for "Goose" or "Slyder" or "Iceman."No...Iceman is too Ibanez, so I'll let you use "Kizanski."This would be amazing!MaverickGooseIcemanSundownHollywoodWolfmanJesterViperCharlieMerlinCougarSliderStingerChipperOr even better... Hot Shots!BensonWalleyeTopperDeadmeatWashoutMailmanThis is fun!...and those guitars could not be more serious!
sonic1974 Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 Really love the look of the neck joints and the headstock is killer! !!
hrtatak Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 http://shishkovguitars.com/content/ordering-your-custom-guitar I am hoping that several of you have followed this link and followed the instructions in it too. Let's keep Mike busy.....real busy. I know #0010 needs a brother so I am anxiously awaiting further contact.
geowolves Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 I don't think Mike will have a problem keeping busy. The question is how the hell do you choose between these two masterpieces. Worth the wait and then some! Don't believe you could go wrong either way.
scottcald Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Great nods to the Hamer history while taking a step or two forward. Awesome job, Mike!
scottcald Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 The headstock puts me in the mind of Art Deco. Love it!
BubbaVO Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 The headstock puts me in the mind of Art Deco. Love it!That and the "thunderbird" 12th fret marker.

Tres Aardvarks Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 I love them both, but am equally excited to see at least three more variations/models still under wraps. I don't want to put ANY negativity on the thread, but yes, I'm waiting for photos of a couple others....notably the semi-hollow one we've gotten sneak peeks of!!
fractal Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 Prices? I know I should "email," but a general guideline would be nice to know "when" to "email."2K? 5K?

Keoghpjk Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 I just sent Mr. Shishkov an email about starting a double cut build. Can't wait to get started!!!
DaveL Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 Hi all, just got back from Florida... was very lucky to check these beauties out in person andhave a nice lunch with Mike and his family. I wasn't able to plug them in but they played reallynice and felt great. slightly fuller round necks, great action, stayed in tune great. beautifullydone fretwork. I'm not typically one of those boutique hardware guys but I absolutely LOVEDthe choice to go with an ABR style bridge and aluminum tailpiece... made a huge differencein tone. It was nice and balanced with no pinging on the high strings. I liked it so much I justbought a Creamtone set (similar, except compatible with Nashville mounts) to try in 0014. (hasn't arrived yet.) The tops are beautiful in person. I could tell Mike is very proud of these and happy to see the great response.
mc2 Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 So....following deductive reasoning on the Cobra model with the Thunderbird inlay.... there should be an eventual Thunderbird model with a Cobra inlay at the 12th fret?....and all BASS players know that a Thunderbird HAS to be a BASS MODEL. 😀
LucSulla Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 I emailed as soon as I saw this. Hubba hubba.
LucSulla Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 Oh boy... Got emailed back with a quote. I won't post here as I haven't seen prices and don't want to talk out of school. Very reasonable though. I'm getting stoked!
