I bought the guitar some 5-6 years ago from a guy from Idaho, Twin Falls, his name was James Duff, really straight seller and a great guy, this really was my favorite guitar and I should've kept it :( .... sometimes one should really listen to his gut feeling!

I'm in the deciding process of if I want to sell my 92 Sunburst or not, also Vintage Orange quilt top. Keep you posted?

this sunburst is also ridiculously LIGHT. I have not had another Studio, but this thing resonates like crazy in my hands and weights something like 6 or 7 pounds...... it's probably the lightest guitar I've had.

I am really having a second honeymoon with this beauty!

Hey Peter, glad to hear that you got your guitar back! That's almost unbelievable as I think that DHL (famous for badly damaging/ breaking valuable musical instruments) is the second worse company in the world (after Monsanto, of course!! ;))

Congrats on the guitar's return!  :D  You could still contact DHL and ask them what the current status of this guitar is, to find out if they are even aware that it was returned to you!  ;)

That is incredible, both the story and the guitar. You are a very lucky man.

Glad you got it back OK!!!

I have had a white Cruisebass that I bought vanish in shipping at Newark Airport.  College kid dickhead seller put in claim and then ran with the money. Good thing it was only like $250.

Also had a FBIV shipped to PA Vanish after UPS claimed it was left on a porch but the delivery sounded suspicious....but we turned up the heat with police, inquiries to UPS, posted the bass on area CraigsLists and guitar blogs and to local MI stores.  That bass "magically reappeared" with UPS leaving a voicemail a week later that it was "just delivered."  Funniest part was the second delivery was reported an hour before it ever happened.  So we are pretty sure it was an employee theft that got so hot they brought it back.

ALWAYS INSURE YOUR SHIPMENTS FOR FULL VALUE. DON'T CHEAP OUT.

UPS packages rarely vanish. We had a $6000 item vanish off the UPS system. It was going from NJ to Maine. Not exactly a big trip. Insured full value, which means UPS puts red tape on it, and is supposed to take it from place to place. However, something happened.  It vanished.  We talked to our rep. They talked to UPS security. They talked to everyone.

And they finally found it in UPS Overgoods, which is basically a big warehouse where all lost packages go. Kind of a dead letter file.  There these packages are supposed to be opened up, and if any contact info found, they are shipped out to that. If not, they get auctioned off at regular intervals. So if you ever lose something of value to UPS, definitely be on the look out around Missouri, where UPS overgoods is located.

Anyway, glad to see this had a happy ending. I would hate to see a great guitar like that lost.

Great suggestion to always include shipper and delivery info inside the package.  I was told by a very good source that the best way to ship guitars is by the U.S. Post office and to always insure for full sale price. With the post office you are dealing with federal employees so theft and negligent handling is taken very seriously.

Great to see it reappear! Curious, why was it returned?

It just spent a few months in DHL/USPS Hell, and never got to it's original destination, but it's back now with the original sender, so...

That may have been the case a decade ago, but the USPS is a total clusterfuck  now.
