Caddie Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 My nominations? Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Jimi Hendrix, Mick Jagger Kinda old school but I think these four created & shaped everything from their time to today's rock n roll. They poured the foundation. All the rest have built on top of it.
Bass Guy Dave Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 Good list, there. I'd only tweak it slightly for my tastes Chuck Berry Little Richard Hendrix and then torn between Malcom Young for the riffs, or Bon Scott for THE Rock and Roll persona--the poet laurate of rock and roll. Probably give the edge to Bon.
JohnnyB Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 There are so many who moved the needle it's hard to limit it to four: Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Elvis, James Brown, Brian WIlson, Lennon/McCartney, Jagger/Richards, Pete Townshend, Eddie Van Halen/David Lee Roth ... There are others who could be on that list (e.g., Clapton, Prince, Bowie, Morrison...), but no way can I reduce it to four without being excessively insular.
gorch Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 Performance and singer extraordinaire Freddy Mercury sure would be a candidate. Hendrix sure is THE modern rock guitarist inventor everybody later on is himself referencing to. Carved into stone! If it came to stem Angus Young into rock it sure needed a broken cap visor like the Sphinx in Egypt.
Andrew Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 Ian Gillan, Ritchie Blackmore, Jon Lord, Roger Glover, Ian Paice. In that order, l - r. To even suggest anyone else could be possibly carved into the rock is sacrilege!
diablo175 Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 That's easy- Gene, Paul, Ace and Peter. Naturally, Gene and Paul would want exclusive marketing and licensing rights.

Caddie Posted May 17, 2016 Author Posted May 17, 2016 Mr. Haynie, I did not realize that Thomas Jefferson had such lovely, beckoning, ruby red lips. Perhaps that's how he became one of the Father's of our Country. Cheers! caddie
Caddie Posted May 17, 2016 Author Posted May 17, 2016 There are lots more granite rocks out there in SD & MT. Sub categories are ok. Duos - Jagger/Richard, Tyler/Perry, Lennon/McCartney, The Captain & Tennielle. Frontmen or women (Ann Wilson, Joplin, Petula Clark), guitar players (hydrate, this one could take awhile), bass players, drummers, best hotel room trashers, blah, blah, blah....... Ready, Steady, Go! caddie ps - I know what you're thinkin punk. "I could do some great work with a couple cans of spray paint on Half Dome!"

Might as well dynamite Lincoln and Jefferson off of the 'real thing' and chisel-up Margaret Thatcher and Tony Blair....NOT!

We invented rock and roll and and made it an industry separate from the art.

Might as well dynamite Lincoln and Jefferson off of the 'real thing' and chisel-up Margaret Thatcher and Tony Blair....NOT! American rock'n'roll was on the decline in the early '60s. Pop music had become a mish-mash of R&B, doo-wop, crossovers and novelty songs. The British Invasion pretty much saved rock'n'roll, based it more firmly on Delta blues and rebooted it for the next decade.
unfun75 Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 Who the heck would have Jim Morrison on their list? Jimi and Janis were on his same level of debauchery AND they had talent.

it's me HHB Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 AND, I'm fairly certain their late guitar man installed the infamous white knobs and poker chip, can the current owner verify? oh man I just noticed the guy with the violin bow on the violin bass, hysterical! great solo too

His singing abilities rivaled most and we lost him way too young; like Hendrix, SRV, Joplin, Pete Ham, and so many others who died before their time, we can only wonder about the music we never got to hear. I'm with unfun. I wonder why anyone wants to hear the music he DID make.
