Influences !

As guitar players we all have our influences and the players we love and respect

But what players have crept into your style/guitar vocab. either out of sheer

appreciation or osmosis. Who do you most sound like? (i know you sound like you!) but who crept in? Just a little?

For me its 70's Jeff Beck-Partly stolen partly osmosis

and early Billy Gibbons completely osmosis (i dont know how he got there but he did.)

Gary Moore, Brian May, Joe Walsh are my primaries.

Do I sound like them? Beats me.

Such distinctively different players. theres got to be some voicings or even attitude

thats rubbed off.?? I mean those guys are very recognizable. dont you think?

Right now it's Petrucci. Do I sound like him? Only in my wet dreams. I sound more like some of the European power metal guys out there right now. A little more gallop and a little less chugga chugga.

Tommy Victor, Tony Iommi, Joe Walsh, Neil Young, Angus & Malcolm Young, James Hetfield, David Gilmour, Greg Martin ( from Deadhorse, not the Kentucky Headhunters)

Jim Heath,

Those are my main influences, but I sound like a mix between Tommy Victor and Hetfield and Iommi.

Joe Satriani. I don't know if anybody else would think I sound like him, but alot of the stuff I do was inspired by him.

Mix Dave Murray and Vernon Reid, break all 20 fingers, and suck out all the talent, and you have my style

Page, Page and Page, with a little more Page on the side.

(Don't sound anything like him, of course.)

Influences are Jimi Hendrix, Dickey Betts, Tommy Johnston, and Mark Knopfler.

Not good enough to sound like any of 'em, maybe a little like each here or there...

For me, the biggest influence has always been Mountain's Leslie West, closely followed by Angus Young, Page, Kossof, early Billy Gibbons, and Peter Green.

I'm not sure who I sound like, but I'd like to think I lean toward Gibbons and Green.

Recently I've jamming to a lot of Roy Buchanan, so now I must have a T-51. Who's got one?

This thread made me figure it out, tobereeno needs to name his band...

Yngwie Van Sinatra.

Yeah, me too. Some of his phrasing has just kind of slipped in. I can't approach his sound or creativity though.

Tommy Bolin

Jeff Beck

Steve Morse

Billy Gibbons

Joe Walsh

I have stolen little bits form each of them...

What I sound like: Jimi/SRV/Billy G./Gary Moore/Frampton/R. Trower/D. Betts

What I wanna sound like: EVH/Warren Haynes/Vai/Satriani/DiMeola

F0KK influences. Just be yourself!

Players I intentionally sat down to learn and copy licks from

BB King

Angus Young

Ty Tabor

Could I be mistaken for any of them? Not hardly, I think. But I'm sure people would spot some of the lick fragments.

Other players I'm sure influenced me--

A ton of Priest

some Accept

Zakk Wylde

EVH

Erci Johnson

I do none justice.

Best Wishes

Jeff Beck, Rory Gallagher, Billy Gibbons, SRV, god there are so many.

Influences for me were players like:

Mark Kendall

Vito Bratta

Kee Marchello

Chris DeGarmo

and maybe a few others

Do I sound like them....I don't really thinks so. If you compare things I play, it would be the closest to Mark Kendall. I wish I could play like Vito or write like DeGarmo, but I can't. A lot of people are telling me that my music sounds very 70's or 80's I've stucked and am proud of that!!!

Early on: Ike Turner, T-Bone Walker, BB King, Nokie Edwards, Kenny Burrell, Wes Montgomery, Chet Atkins, Bob Gibson (banjo and guitar pickin' folkie), Tommy Tedesco, Dennis Budimir, Dick Dale.

Later: Robbie Roberston, Mike Bloomfield and Elvin Bishop, Clapton, Dave Mason, Jim Peterik, Rev. Willie G., Steve Cropper, Ry Cooder.

Do I sound like any of them? Only if you have the patience to listen closely to whatever it is in the junk that falls off my fingers.

biggest influence in my formative years was Tanquery and tonic...but I really opened up my eye's when I was intruduced to Capt. Morgans!! hey!! after all...they are "influences"....hehehe

Tony Iommi and Billy Gibbons for tone.

Glen Buxton and Mike Bruce for attitude. They had that in spades.

When in doubt, turn it up.
