Drama in the "Pantera" saga. I would imagine Phil's Nazi salute and exhortation of white power might not have sat well with concert organizers and goers.

I’ll bet he ties his shoes in little knot-zis.

There are equally bad things that bands sing about or talk about.  There are personal behaviors that get overlooked.

Pay someone to kill your wife and you are going to be shunned by most people, but If you are in a band there are people anticipating your next tour.

People are entitled to their beliefs and people are entitled to disagree. Natzi salutes in Germany are a no go. Not a metal fan,so no chance I would ever attend, but if they did that I would want a refund!

If this indeed has anything to do with the 2016 Anselmo incident, fuck both of these festivals for being such weasels. That isn’t because I have an issue with not booking Anselmo’s projects over it, but everyone and their brother in the metal world knows this happened. Not only was it widely reported, there was the whole Robb Flynn from Machine Head cringefest that kept it making the rounds through various metal outlets for quite awhile.

There’s absolutely no way these promoters booked this initially and just didn’t know about it. Either book it or don’t, but don’t go for the cash grab, get called out (if this is what happened), and pull that “after a lot of reflection” BS.

I’m in the camp of no Vinnie no Paul no Pantera.

No Vinnie, No Dimebag, (they were both named Paul) No Pantera.

It was just the right decision from organizers.

Interesting- for the festival, they got replaced by Foo Fighters. Who’s playing drums for them now?

They haven't announced a permanent drummer.

High odds were for Rufus Taylor from The Darkness (Roger's son), but Josh Freese is also a name I've seen bantered around.

Lots of the Foo fanpages keep pushing Taylor Hawkins' son Shane, but I highly doubt they're going to hand that off to a 16 year old.  Definitely doesn't have the maturity/stability needed for a full-time member, but he has talent.

Pantera has a show booked in NH in September that I was thinking about going to…right up until I got a look at the ticket prices.   $199 for GA Pit.   No disrespect to Zakk and Charlie who are great in their own respective bands but that’s a bit steep for what amounts to the world’s loudest cover band.   Pass.

It is pretty hard to match the Nazis for bad things….   I am sure that some will try.  Don’t plan to support them or rationalize them.

I'd call that an upgrade for sure.

I have mixed feelings about this reunion/tribute. At first I thought "I don't need to see this", but now it looks like I might work EMS at the Blue Ridge Fest in September, so maybe... Mostly the whole thing just makes me feel old. It seems like yesterday that I saw the new guy Phil at Joes Garage in Ft Worth...

PS - finally ran across a pic of the guys w/ the last interim singer Mat L'Amour, who has been leading the excellent Led Zep tribute Zoso for the last ~25 years;
