Reverb Pedal Advice Sought

My friend has a couple of vintage non-reverb Fender amp restorations on his bench, and he mentioned that he'd like to check out a good reverb pedal or two.

I told him I know nothing, but I know just the folks that do.

All advice and experience appreciated.

I don't think you can go wrong with a Strymon Flint, multiple vintage style reverb and tremolo models built in. Pricey and never discounted.

But  I am sure you will get recommendations for others that may be more tweakable (esp if you like more extreme effects) and most likely cheaper, esp if you forego the trem.

Boy, there's so many good ones out there. The old HOF is cheap and ok. I compared several of the high end verbs and settled on the Source Audio Ventris. With my 5E3 it sounds delicious. It also made my HOF embarrassed. The Ventris is equal to some Lexicon rack mount units I have to my ears.

Chances are that you could buy any reverb pedal from a manufacturer whose pedals you already like, and you will find something about that pedal that you like, too. 

How picky you are makes a difference.  However, reverb pedals come with enough knobs to tweak them into some type of reverb that you will want to use.  If you are looking for a large hall, small room, metal plate, cathedral, or Grand Canyon variety of sounds you could just find an old Midiverb cheap.  They may date back to the 80's, but they still sound good.  Tommy Emmanuel is still using Midiverb II's.

I had a JHS 3 Reverb, I really liked it, sold it to my friend (also a longtime Hamer guy), he really likes it too. Those are very affordable and available.

I had an original Hermida that I really liked.  I didn't spend any time comparing it to other pedals but it added a nice reverb when needed to my amps that lacked it.

I've not used it but the current iteration is made by the Lovepedal guy and many here drool over most anything with his name on it.

I have a Flint Reverb/Tremolo on my big board, but still LOVE my older Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail Reverb on my small board. The Holy Grail just sounds like the real thing. Save some money and find a cheap used one, you'll thank me.

I  love my Flint. it also has a great tremolo. if you don't need/want the trem then seek the Grail

Bubs loves the cbread Topanga. I currently have the Flint and love it. The  70s Plate setting is worth the cost of admission….well, that and the 60s Harmonic Trem! 
 

Cheaper options include the Hermida Spring and especially the Lovepedal 60s Reverb. That thing sounds just like a real tank but the Flint offers so much more.

I have enjoyed the Little Lanilei I bought here for much less that new. It is sort of a one trick pony type reverb, but it is certainly fun to play around with once you get use to it.

Similar to Santellavision’s suggestion, I say the EHX Holy Grail Neo version.  It replaces the silly Flerb preset with a plate setting.  Stupid simple, sounds great.  I use it in front of my 18 Watter clone.

Big vote for the T-Rex Roommate Jr. It doesn’t seem to get much recognition here but that might be because there are SO MANY reverb options out there. I’m a huge fan.

The Topanga supposedly was meant to sound like an old Fender reverb unit so if you want that vibe it’s cool. I use mine with a 5E3 Lil Dawg build. I like it a lot. Playing around the house I love a little reverb.
