Hbom Posted September 24, 2025 Posted September 24, 2025 (edited) When the last couple of 4 digit Standards have been asking 10-15k, I guess 5 grand for a relic is "not too bad" 😜 Hamer Custom Explorer 1980s 4 digit serial | Reverb But is an '80 Standard really a 4-digit? kizanski Posted September 24, 2025 Posted September 24, 2025 "Relic" is one word for that mess. "Active neglect" is how I'd describe it. 1 2 1 Quote
The Shark Posted September 24, 2025 Posted September 24, 2025 A good friend of mine from Michigan would call it, "A bucket of fuck"... 4 Quote
Victor (Fret Friend) Posted September 24, 2025 Posted September 24, 2025 7000 Canadian $'s? Yeah, phuck off!!! What a p155 take... 1 Quote
Menehune Posted September 24, 2025 Posted September 24, 2025 Yep, the owner clearly thrashed this Standard while wearing studded bracelets and brass knuckles. And oh look - a headstock repair. Sweet. Quote
Disturber Posted September 25, 2025 Posted September 25, 2025 I f**king like it. A lot. A god damn road warrior. The stories, if it could talk..... Is this what it used to look like, when new? B&W Standard. Reminds me of Dez Dickersons Standard. 2 Quote

Hbom Posted September 25, 2025 Author Posted September 25, 2025 Probably ought to have an almost full pic of this. For prosperity purposes, you know. 1 1 Quote

Dave Scepter Posted September 25, 2025 Posted September 25, 2025 (edited) In all honesty, if you have the skills and A LOT of time, "rubber gloves", you can remove all the stickers and paint, De-Kahlerize, put a new top on her and could make a little bit of cash out of that... retention of the 4 digit numbers is what's going to help you sell that bad boy down the road Just make sure you're current on all your shots 🤣 Edited September 25, 2025 by Dave Scepter 2 Quote

Maybe a long way down the road, but at $5150 (apropos price for a lunatic) there isn't a whole lot of money to be made after you re-top and repaint. When you're done you'll have a refinished 4-digit with a headstock repair. Factor in what it would cost to get you there and you're losing money. 2 Quote

Geez, fuk'n pay attention 🤣 Sure, but Jay's time isn't free. He'd be better off spending his time repairing/building something for a client than hoping to recoup what looks like 10 hours of his professional time. Unless your point is that the person with the skills would fix it and keep it, but you said "make a little bit of cash" out of it. The guitar is trash. The owner saw to that. Quote
Dave Scepter Posted September 25, 2025 Posted September 25, 2025 (edited) FFS... just think of it as a personal project that you can sell whenever you decide to complete it, whether it be a year or 10 years from now... just escape to the garage, watch some football, Have a beer.... pull some stickers off one weekend... another weekend, fill the Kahler hole... yada, yada, yada... It's not trash, if the neck is straight and the truss rod is still working I will bet you you will see this guitar for sale in 1 to 3 years all fixed up with a vague description 🤣 Edited September 25, 2025 by Dave Scepter 1 1 Quote

I just don’t think anyone is making a dime off of it at that price of entry. 5 Quote
