Would that still be a "Jr" or does it need to be a single coil to complement the stripped down ethos of the guitar? Were there any single pickup versions of the 1993 era P90 Specials before the BCR runs? I don't know about others but I'd consider it a junior. 2 Quote

Is the Tobacco sunburst on the right an original finish? If so, cool, I was not aware that the double cutaway LPJrs came in that finish. Either way, I love that Gibson TSB finish from @ 1960. My second good guitar (after a ‘69 SG STD) was a 1961 Melody Maker, double cutaway, two pickup model. Same TSB finish. What a neck that MM had! Edited November 25, 2025 by topekatj 1 Quote

One my all time favorite Hamers. Mr. Wanchick also had a black single pickup/Sustainblock Standard - I remember seeing that one on SCTV years and years ago ('82), when the guitar was new. An HFC'er owns that one now. 8 Quote

(Although I have seen a pic of one other one that was taken at a guitar show years back- It was a ‘59.) Since you asked…This sunburst ‘60 is a unicorn of sorts. The finish is absolutely original. This one is thought to possibly have been built for the 1960 trade show (NAMM before it was called NAMM)…but this really can’t be verified…as this guitar falls in the “missing Gibson log books” date range. This particular guitar is often referred to as the “purpleburst” as the finish looks purple in certain light. Brian Ray has a ‘62 SG Junior in the same finish. His appears to be another unicorn. 15 Quote

When I saw the Brian Ray SG Jr. on his Gibson TV episode I immediately thought “SG Jr. shot with a Melody Maker finish”. IMO the tobacco SB is a lot more interesting than a cherry finish. Quote

This thing is super rad. I forget how I've come across it before (maybe mylespaul) but I didn't realize it was the only one. Is it bursted over tv yellow, and is that how the other sunburst single cuts were done? The center looks opaque in the photos. Edited November 28, 2025 by Ua D Quote

Plenty of folks have called dibs… Brian Ray and Charlie Starr among them…but I don’t think I will be parting with it any time soon. It is a really special guitar. The neck on it is actually bigger than the necks on any of my 50’s Juniors. This one came into my possession years ago via someone on one of the Les Paul forums. It ended up for sale in the classifieds there and actually did not sell right away because there were some that questioned the originality of the finish. If you have had your hands on enough of these…you know it when you see it. Even from pictures…it is undeniable if you know what you are looking at. Plus this guitar spent some time over in the UK and passed through the hands of some people that I trust. 5 1 Quote

The sunburst on this guitar is completely different from either of those. It is very opaque and the center has a rich golden hue. There has been plenty of speculation of how different it may have looked in 1960. Was it a more distinctively purple shade that faded out to brown? It is so hard to tell. 1 Quote

Ua D Posted December 7, 2025 Author Posted December 7, 2025 (edited) It's more of special but I picked this bad boy up last week. Pretty awesome so far. The neck profile is fantastic. Funny enough the neck joint while cool looking doesn't do anything or actually add to the playability on the upper frets IMO. Still feels like a setback single cut with a blocky neck joint. First Huber, and first blue guitar (well besides the white Washburn I painted metallic blue 25 years ago hahahah) Edited December 7, 2025 by Ua D 11 Quote

django49 Posted February 24 Posted February 24 So, if SPECIALS are allowed to slip in...... More or less the same as a Huber Krautster II with a personality. Rosewood neck and cocobolo. NOT weight relieved. Sounds as big as you would expect. Push/pull jumps to both pups in series for a huge HB effect. 5 Quote
