Willie G. Moseley Posted January 25 Posted January 25 Sensible video. Wonder if and where Lemmy might have ranked if he was still alive (considering his standard vocal stylings over the decades (notice that I'm not referring to him as a "singer"). He did note that Motorhead wouldn't go on until they were over the hill and embarrassing themselves, and while that's the way it happened, it didn't happen like the band thought it would, I'd think. 1 Quote
duncans Posted January 26 Posted January 26 David Lee is in our state twice this coming summer. I think my yard needs mowing. Altho I'm sure his band will be decent. 4 Quote

veatch Posted January 26 Posted January 26 OK, so who had "Nut-hugging Spandex" on their Influencer Bingo Card? 1 3 Quote
Spinaltap Posted January 26 Posted January 26 Yeah, that's a list all right, there's lots more who need to hang it up, but i'm not naming names... Quote
Pieman Posted January 26 Posted January 26 Yeah, well, Mr Classic Album Review’s opinion won’t stop me from seeing Bob Dylan in April. 3 1 Quote
RobB Posted January 26 Posted January 26 Waters' redo of, "DSOTM", should qualify him for permanent banishment to Elba island. 1 Quote
Willie G. Moseley Posted January 26 Posted January 26 I didn't last long trying to watch A Complete Unknown. As boring as watching paint dry. 1 Quote

Introduced to the term "horse-shittery" in the first minute or so. ETA: can't argue with any of his list. To my own chagrin, I'd add Geddy Lee. I loves me some Geddy (Rush is my favorite band), but go back and listen to R30 - that was released twenty years ago - even the pirate-themed spoof of "Priests" couldn't hide the inability to hit the notes. To his credit, no one could hit those notes back when he hit those notes (well okay, maybe Jon Anderson), but tuning "The Spirit of Radio" down a half-step still didn't get it. What Ged can do: the new stuff. The fact of the matter is he absolutely can still sing (unlike those on the list). Ged's voice has aged well and the newer stuff that isn't, what was the reviewer's comment back in the 70's? a squirrel caught in a fan? squirrel sucking helium? I really like the more resonant voice on Clockwork Angels and the other later work. Not necessarily better. It's just different. Edited January 27 by velorush Quote
veatch Posted January 27 Posted January 27 I didn't think Klaus and Sir Paul were terrible - would need to hear a longer clip to gauge. I won't judge a voice crack on an aging singer. They both still sound better than me... 1 Quote

I won't judge a voice crack on an aging singer. They both still sound better than me... After the, “Lovedrive”, tour (ca. 1980), Klaus was diagnosed with nodes on his vocal cords. After surgery, his options were quitting or learning to properly sing. He was assigned an opera coach and spent the good part of the year relearning his instrument. Y’know, I was just spinning, “Blackout”, today and, yikes, that dude could effing BRING IT. He still had it in (appx) 2000 at the SF Cow Palace, “Moment of Glory”, show I teched. “Still Loving You”, and, “Holiday”, with a symphony orchestra? Bitch, pleeease! ZR Posted January 27 Posted January 27 (edited) I still remember and have the pics, setlist and backstage pass that Rob sent me from that tour from decades ago. What an awesome HFC thing to do!!! The fact that it was from Cow Palace was icing on the cake as I had been to many shows there when I lived two hours south back then, and had seen Scorpions there with Iron Maiden and Girlschool opening. Edited January 27 by ZR Add to Robs glowing review! Quote
tommy p Posted January 27 Posted January 27 I just skimmed the video but I didn't see Jon Bon Jovi in it and he should be. 1 2 Quote

Yeah, I think they found one side of his larynx is paralyzed? I heard they were trying to fix it, but when you sing like that at the edge of your range, things happen over time. Brian Johnson of AC/DC maybe should be in there, mostly because his hearing is completely shot, and also his voice is not what it used to be. They almost need to re-write some of the vocal parts or take them down an octave so he actually sounds decent, which is still does in his lower range. Part of me wonders whether Freddie Mercury would still be able to sing had he not passed away from AIDS. He had already been suffering from vocal chord nodules, and touring destroys your voice unless you go full Andy Serkis / Gollum and pretty much ice your throat and drink special throat stuff whenever you aren't performing. I mean, I'm glad Run DMC rescued them from certain drug-related death, but just not a fan. I'm fine with the Stones. Not a huge fan, but unlike Aerosmith, I don't typically change the channel when they come on. 2 Quote
