BCR Greg Posted August 14, 2005 Posted August 14, 2005 I just finished restoring this little jem, it had been ordered with a flight case, and the case lining had glued itself to the finish of the bass way back in 81. Sitting since then, the finish had rotted inside the case. Taking it out was like taking velcro apart! We wet sanded and buffed our little shoulders out, and some touch up work was needed as well. The owner had added a third pickup, so I corrected the routing(not well done, and he hangs his head as we speak!), and went with a red X2N for a different look. What do ya think? Here's a before shot, after I cleaned up the middle pickup route(those hamster teeth marks were kinda nasty!), you can see how bad the finish was... I love my job.
HSB0531 Posted August 14, 2005 Posted August 14, 2005 Yes Greg, I'm hanging my head. And what would you like said on the Shrine?

cmatthes Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 Jon: If I can help you out in dealing with your red aversion, please let me know! I think that there's a hideous B-12S and a Reddish Kid's 12 that you shouldn't have to have burning your retinas. I'll forward my shipping address whenever you want - hell, I'll even pay for shipping and insurance!
BCR Greg Posted August 16, 2005 Author Posted August 16, 2005 Well, after thinking about how the extra pickup looked, we decided to go just a little farther. I think it's perfect, now.

bach Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 Get out the drill. You forgot the fourth pickup knob...
BCR Greg Posted August 16, 2005 Author Posted August 16, 2005 Look close. One volume per pickup, no switch. Hey, it's what he wanted. Push/pulls for the red X2n phase. It sounds great.
HSB0531 Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 DAMMMIT Greg!I TOLD you to put in 4 X2N's & 1 Gibson EB3 baby P/U!But seriously, I WAS toying with the idea of 4 on a new one.Yes that's the way I like it. No tone controls, just lots of blending.I like to dial in all the the tone at the Pre-. Jim

Moose Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 I think the outer two pickup bezels should be red.
