Hamerhack Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 Let's say, for some reason or another, you can only see one more concert in your lifetime.Your tickets are free! (Great seats, too!)Who's it gonna be? Someone you've never seen? Someone you've seen before? The person/group has to still be alive. Might happen events (if Cream or The Police ever reunite again, etc) are okay, I guess. What venue would you pick?I'd have to take the whole family to see Sir Paul.I used to sing Beatles stuff to my kids when they were little, but never played Beatles albums. Anyway, one time we were in the car, and the radio starts playing "I'll Follow The Sun". My daughter (maybe 3 at the time) yelled out "It's Daddy!"
BlueRedWhite Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 Vai, Maalsteem, Satch and EVH concert (G4) i drool just thinking about it
Brooks Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 i have tix for this;On November 20 and 21 Abstract Logix will host its debut festival. The Festival will draw together artists who “seamlessly mingle compositional ingenuity and improvisational grace and fervor.” The line-up certainly meets this goal, with John McLaughlin and 4th Dimension, The Lenny White Group (featuring Jimmy Herring), Wayne Krantz, and more. The event will take place at the Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh North Carolina.my dream gig would sub scofield/MMW, and charlie hunter (instead of mclaughlin and some of the others), but i'm psyched to see krantz and herring on the same bill.
carfish7 Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 Jeff Beck. Saw him with SRV on the "Guitar Shop" tour and it was mind-blowing.I need it blown again.Somewhere outdoors, please.Z
veatch Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 If you're saying i will die right after the concert, i'll have to pick whatever would be the longest, which from my experience tends to be a children's recital. Seriously, i agree with Z - gotta be Beck.
Willie G. Moseley Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 Probably the Allman Brothers w/ every guitarist they've had (that's still alive) participating, on accounta the concert would last a long time and would put out some great music.Would love to see Cream again (saw and heard 'em 27 OCT 68), but it would have to be sonically appropriate for me to enjoy it; i.e., not w/ the tonal mix of the reunion concerts that were done in the middle of this decade (it's been noted here before---and not by me---that there's a big difference in a Les Paul or Firebird thru Marshalls and a Strat thru tweed Twins). Venue would probably be Chastain Park in Atlanta
princeofdarkness56 Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 I am a gutter rocker and have been told many times that the music I like the best has no redeeming social value. I think that's one of the best compliments I have ever gotten, although I know that was not the intention. It may not be fashionable, but I would go to see Alice Cooper again. Forget the age, forget no radio play, etc etc, he is constantly writing and recording new material because he still has some things he wants to say and his band always has one of the best two guitar combinations around. Lot's of swagger and attitude. Zero nostalgia.
specialk Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 Not yet sure who I'd want to see, but I know I'd want it to be at Red Rocks Amphitheatre:http://www.redrocksonline.com/
RichF Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 Jeff Beck. Saw him with SRV on the "Guitar Shop" tour and it was mind-blowing.I need it blown again.Somewhere outdoors, please.ZI saw him on that tour as well and saw him on the tour he just did.He was great then and even better now.For me it would be a tossup between Jeff Beck or seeing Clapton one more time.
Steve Haynie Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 I just saw KISS. Am I supposed to die now?
Hamerhack Posted September 13, 2010 Author Posted September 13, 2010 This wasn't really a "facing the firing squad final request" idea here."for some reason or another" is why it's your last concert."My wife won't let me go to any more", you're being transferred to a parallel universe, etc. will suffice.
Stike Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 AC/DC was so damn good when i saw them a year and a half ago i have to pick them.A smaller venue with The Supersuckers opening would be tits.
harry65 Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 Jeff Beck. Saw him with SRV on the "Guitar Shop" tour and it was mind-blowing. I need it blown again. Somewhere outdoors, please. Z +1000..................
pesocaster Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 ..... saw it this year.... Rush at Red Rocks..... it was amazing! .... as far as future concerts go... it would have to be something rare and / or once in a lifetime to get me to go.....
David B Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 I just saw KISS. Am I supposed to die now?me too
Submariner85 Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 Probably the Allman Brothers w/ every guitarist they've had (that's still alive) participating, Manowar did this with all previous guitarists and drummers. It was cool. Here's a clip (not to deter from the thread but I love this)Battle Hymn
tommy p Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 AC/DC with Cheap Trick and Kix opening, and I get to choose all the set lists.
specialk Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 Okay, I figured it out. Steve Miller at Red Rocks! I've always liked him (even in the Joker-Abracadabera stage, kinda) and I expect that, with age, his playing is super tasteful these days. But still ROCK!
ajoso Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 Tom Waits. Maybe David Gilmour if he did another 2006 type of show (RIP Richard Wright.) Keith Richards if he ever reformed the X-Pensive Winos.Come to think of it, another Led Zeppelin Reunion.I haven't seen U2 yet, but I hear that they put on a heck of a show - not that I've been able to afford the tickets.
svl Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 Van Halen with Michael Anthony back on board, with Prince and (the original line-up) Revolution opening.Hard to choose which act would be the hardest to get together....
Ted Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 Not yet sure who I'd want to see, but I know I'd want it to be at Red Rocks Amphitheatre:http://www.redrocksonline.com/Red Rocks has been on my mind ever since seeing a MTV live show of U2 there in '81 or '82 I believe.AC/DC was so damn good when i saw them a year and a half ago i have to pick them.A smaller venue with The Supersuckers opening would be tits.Still haven't seen AC/DC live so seeing them would be way up there now.
belikerick Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 Not yet sure who I'd want to see, but I know I'd want it to be at Red Rocks Amphitheatre:http://www.redrocksonline.com/Red Rocks has been on my mind ever since seeing a MTV live show of U2 there in '81 or '82 I believe.I actually passed on tickets to that Blood Red Sky show at Red Rocks because the weather was so cold and wet that day... D'OH!!! AMEN & +100 on Red RocksMy pick today would probably have to be David Gilmour at the Rocks
Brentrocks Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 KISS, Cobo Hall, 1975...anybody got a time machine?
geoff_hartwell Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 Probably the Allman Brothers w/ every guitarist they've had (that's still alive) participating, on accounta the concert would last a long time and would put out some great music. Ha ha. Right On. They tend to have a ton of sit-in guests also. But definitely the Beacon Theater here in NY. I've been a wasted kid tripping in the cheap seats, as well as a douchebag in the front row, and also a guest backstage. That band at that venue, to me, is heaven. At least, I hope that's what heaven smells like! Geoff
